Stephen Igleski, age 95, passed into the Lord's hands on January 31, 2013. He was born on October 10, 1917 in Toledo, Ohio. He was one of six children of John and Charlotte Igleski. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Ruby Lee, his parents, sisters Janette Grodewald, Mary Scott, and brothers Roman, Anthony, and Joseph Igleski. Stephen Igleski, age 95, passed into the Lord's hands on January 31, 2013. He was born on October 10, 1917 in Toledo, Ohio. He was one of six children of John and Charlotte Igleski. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Ruby Lee, his parents, sisters Janette Grodewald, Mary Scott, and brothers Roman, Anthony, and Joseph Igleski. Surviving are his daughters Charlotte (Robert) Lastacy of Hudsonville, Dolores (Dee) Igleski and Mike Van Weezel of Kentwood, grandchildren Kevin and Esther Lastacy of Holland, Michelle and Kirk DeWeerd of Allendale, and Kyle and Kristin Lastacy of Hudsonville, great-grandchildren Courtney, Hunter Lastacy, Lindsay, Aaron DeWeerd, and Ty Wilson, sister-in- law Doris Igleski of Arizona, and many nieces and nephews. Steve graduated from Union High School in 1935 where he played football. After graduation he joined the Navy, and served his country for 10 years. He served aboard the U.S.S. Texas, and was deployed to various ports including Norfolk Va, Pensacola Fl, and Hawaii. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars for over 65 years. While stationed in Norfolk, he met his future wife Ruby, and they were married in 1943. Steve was a co-owner of General Polishing & Buffing. He later worked for Westdale Realty, and was a retired officer with Mutual Home Federal. In retirement he assisted his wife Ruby manage the Northbrook Apartments. Among his many interests over the years were swimming, fishing, bowling, playing cards, crossword puzzles, and attending boxing events, as he boxed while in the Navy. Among his fondest memories were family activities, including camping trips with his family to Interlochen, and along Lake Michigan. There were also family road trips visiting family and friends in other states. Steve was always proud of his Polish heritage, and would always greet people in Polish, Jak sie masz (how are you). There was a scholarship given in his name annually by the Polish Falcons to deserving students. A Memorial Service will be held to celebrate Steve's life on February 9, 2013 at Sheldon Meadows Living Center, 4482 Port Sheldon Rd. Georgetown Township. Friends and family will meet at 12:30PM with services at 1:00PM. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate contributions to Spectrum Hospice, 4500 Breton Rd. SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49508. A special thank you to Sheldon Meadows, as the family greatly appreciates the loving care and support given to Stephen.
