Stewart Clarence Eggert died peacefully on Thursday morning, August 3, 2017 in Tampa, Florida. He was 87 years old and is now with his Lord Jesus, who he served so faithfully during his life.
Stu was born on September 6, 1929 in Elgin, Illinois, where he grew up and helped his father's coal business by emptying trucks of coal at customer’s homes. He attended Beloit College in Wisconsin. At Beloit, he excelled in swimming, setting a pool record for the 100-meter freestyle. A powerful athlete, Stu was also a great sailor, and once won a race with a crew member who later won Olympic gold. After college, Stu attended law school at the University of Florida and then served for two years in the U.S. Army stationed in an anti-aircraft unit outside New York City. Here, he met and married the love of his life, Edith Webster, with whom he would spend the rest his life.
Stu and Edie moved to Tampa, Florida in 1957, where Stu joined the law firm of Allen, Dell, Frank and Trinkle, where he worked until his retirement in 2001, ultimately serving as managing partner. His biggest client for many years was the Tampa International Airport. He served a key role in planning, building, and operating the award-winning airport for more than three decades.
At age 40, Stu had a powerful experience with Jesus Christ and became a Christian. Ever after, his faith and family were the great passions of his life. He served as an elder for many years at Bayshore United Methodist Church in Tampa, Florida (and later at Cornerstone Church and Grace Family Church.) He dedicated himself to serving mission organizations, including such groups as the music ministry Living Sound (which shared the gospel in Eastern Europe before the fall of the so-called Iron Curtain) and Missionary Ventures International, Inc. (which he helped guide from its early short-term missions in Guatemala to its expansion in 75 nations.) He provided free legal assistance to many, counseled couples, taught Bible studies, sang in choirs and barbershop chorus, and filled the room with his powerful, usually joyful, presence wherever he went.
Stu is predeceased by his father Clarence, his mother Norma Stewart, and his sisters Joan and Julie. He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife and partner of 61 years Edith Webster Eggert, his sons, and their spouses (William “Bill” and Tina, David and Lynne, John and Melissa, and James “Jim” and Sheryl), seven grandchildren (Curtis, Benjamin, Jacob, Ethan, Rachel, Noah, and Meghan), two step-grandchildren (Ryan Olivero and Nina Olivero-Jones), and two step-great-grandchildren (Luca and Ainsley).
A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Lutz at 960 Lutz Lake Fern Road, Lutz, Florida at 10 AM on Saturday, August 12, 2017.
He was interred at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to Missionary Ventures International, Inc. in memory of "Stu" Eggert. Enclose a note to MVI indicating your intent. At your request, MVI will also send a letter to Edie. Please send checks to Missionary Ventures International, Inc. at P.O. Box 593550 Orlando FL 32859-3550.

Eddy,
Stew was such a good friend and blessing to my Stu, and I am sure that Stu Mast was right there to welcome him home.
The Memorial Service was a beautiful tribute and was certainly a strong witness to everyone there.

Edie, Stu's memorial was a tremendous blessing in the sharing of his life and ministry. I trust there will be many who will come to the LORD through that testimony. I am praying for you that Father will be very close to you during these days of adjustment and grief. You are blessed to have such wonderful sons to help you. An old friend, Janet Venable

Sister In Christ
Stewart and Edie Eggert gave to so many, opening their homes and hearts to all who came for wise counsel. Stewart was always a leader, whose congenial manner enriched all the activities he participated in. He was always intelligent, gracious and generous. HIs beautiful wife, and talented children are a testimony of the man who was Stewart Eggert. God bless you special Edie, for all you did to ease his suffering. Stew is now with Jesus and you are tasked with fulfilling your calling, as Stew did. What a team you were. We are all eternally grateful to you and your family. May Jesus wrap His arms around you and comfort you. What a wonderful family you have raised together. Agape, a sister in Christ

From our earliest years serving with Missionary Ventures it has been an honour to know Stu and Edie, and still we have fond memories of our stay with them in Tampa - and our meetings since. We will always remember Stu as a man of good humour, high integrity and stature and with a strong faith in His Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Our sincere condolences to Edie and the rest of the family with our love and prayers.

I can't find the words to express how much Stu has influenced Ivan and I. His strong faith, leadership and his example as a Godly husband & father will never fade in the memories of those of us that his life has touched. We pray the Holy Spirit will continue to hold your family close and fill your hearts with His peace and comfort. We will be unable to attend the service as we will be out of town but will be with you in spirit to celebrate Stu's home going!!
