Susan Jo Ranes, 70, of Mt. Vernon, formerly of Evansville, passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at St. Vincent Hospital, with her family by her side. She was born May 16, 1947, in Evansville, IN to the late Arthur T. and Maxine (Hufnagel) Ottman.
She graduated from F.J. Reitz High School in 1965 and was a lifelong member of Simpson United Methodist Church. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she enjoyed spending time with them and attending their sporting events. Susie looked forward to attending her monthly Bunco night with neighbors and monthly luncheon date with her close friends. She was a talented seamstress, specializing in custom made drapery. She also dearly loved her dog, Bella.
Susan was preceded in death by her sister, Carol Choate; nephew, M. Andrew Choate; and niece, Kelly Keith.
She is survived by her husband, Kenny Ranes; daughters, Brooke (Steve) Wells and Erin (Kirk) Meyer; grandchildren, Cooper, Mattie Jo and Wyatt Wells, Reece, Kord and Berklee Meyer; nephew, Jeff (Michelle) Choate; great-nephew, Andrew; brother-in-law, Keith (Marcie) Ranes; nieces, Breana (Michael) Goldman, Beth Ranes and Amiee Ranes; and a special group of friends.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, August 14, 2017, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Rev. Dennis Adams, with entombment in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Sunday from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Vincent Hospital Cardiac ICU, especially Dr. Garcia and Dr. Curtis.
