Dear Don, Leeanne, Bryan, and the entire Weaver/Randall Family,

I belong to Groton New London International Church of Christ, and we have learned, through the Findings and their relationship with Bryan, of your sad loss; havin' lost both parents myself, I know, all too well, that very special sadness! Cannot imagine your loss, though, Don.

I have used this eulogy I wrote for my own mom as a grief enabler in both hospice work and my bereavement ministry. Understanding, only somewhat, the hole left behind, regardless the inevitability or forewarning, pray this helps some wee bit...to allow...enable…your grief! So truly sorry to hear about your wife, mom, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. At least now she's at peace with our Lord…definitely keepin' y'all in my prayers!

When my mother died, even after a years-long battle with cancer, I was shattered by the loss…inconsolable…she was my mentor! I like to think that I got my character from my father, but my mind and its capacity from m'dear sainted mother!!! BUT, "If your faith assures you she's in heaven, then what are the tears all about?!?" I hold eternity dearly close...a cherished, hard-won prize...but, in the interim, that answer lies below.

SELFISH TEARS
(I Eulogize My Beloved Mother - March, 1989)

Today we cry...must admit they're selfish tears.
You see...our faith assures your journey's done.
But it's not for you we mourn, at all, my dear;
It's for those of us you've left behind...alone!!!

We share your joy...share your happiness at rest,
Your painful fears now for forever stilled.
You've fought the good fight, passed the final test,
But you've left behind a hole that can't be filled!!!

So, until we each rejoin you some someday,
And, while your memory buoys us through those years,
We'll miss you...but continue on our way,
And, from time to time, we'll cry our selfish tears!!!

A remembrance of Susan from the funeral:

A partial dictionary definition of an Angel is, “..an agent of God.”

Susan is our Angel. Susan made us all more caring, more tolerant, and more compassionate. I think that anyone that helps you be a more accepting,a more understanding person is an agent of God. Our father always said Susan made him a better father and a better person. Susan was an inspiration to all those who were willing to learn from her.

Life isnot always easy for anyone, but everyone could learn from Susan and how she faced her challenges with the heart of gold and a spirit of resilience. Our parents gave her a loving start, DMR gaveher the opportunity to achieve and live a full life, and Donald gave herhimself, all his love, and their two wonderful children.

Her 26years of marriage with Donald was a testament to their love. Leeanne and Bryan are the extension of her life into the next generation – I hope they see that as a blessing and know that there was nothing and no one that Susan loved more or was more proud of.She is their mother and their greatest fan.

Our angel has been taken too soon, but I know she will be looking down on us and watchingover us all. She will especially be watching over Donald, Leeanne, and Bryan with the same love she has always displayed for them.

All our love Susan! Go with God!

Susan was a dear friend throughout my high school years. I have only the fondest memories of Sue and her family. The world would be a truly wonderful place if everyone could have such friends. I remember bicycling with Susan to Gillette's Castle, walking many miles on a day off from school due to a snowstorm to visit a horse farm, picking raspberries together for hours at Scott's Farm Market, pitting cherry after cherry after cherry to make a pie together. Susan was full of life and will be remembered that way. I'm so very glad we were able to re-connect if only briefly . Peace, and happy memories to Sue's family and friends.
