Sydell was born on March 1, 1926 to the parents of Jacob and Nellie Mones in Kingston, New York. Her family moved to Norwalk, Connecticut when Sydell was 15 years old. There, she met her husband of 64 years, Stanley Schneider, who died in 2009. They were married on November 22, 1945 in Vero Beach, Florida while Stan was in the Navy. When Stan left the Navy, they moved back to Norwalk, CT where they raised two children, Stan and Cheryl. Upon retirement, Sydell and Stan moved to Ojai, California in 1988 to be close to their children and grandchildren.

Sydell worked at various part-time jobs, but she was mostly a homemaker with many interests and talents. Her passions were tennis, animal rights, and riding her bike all around Ojai. Sydell was an avid tennis player and for many years, she was a volunteer for the Ojai Tennis Tournament. She was known for her comedic nature and New York accent, and she was very proud of her Jewish heritage.

Sydell will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, devoted grandmother, and great-grandmother. Sydell is survived by her children, Cheryl (husband Bob) and Stan (wife Julie). She was very proud of her grandchildren, Ryan Meyers (wife Sierra) and Ali Meyers, and her great-grandchildren, Ella and Kelsea Meyers.
