Sylvia "Jane" Allen of Jackson, TN, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 12, 2011 after a courageous battle with ALS.
Jane was born July 24, 1935 in Greenfield, TN to the late James Harold and Margaret Needham. She graduated from Steele Private School and attended West Tennessee Business College. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Raymond Allen in 2008.
Jane was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker during her children's early years. Later she worked at the Camera Shop, The Kitchen Cabinet at Old Hickory Mall and many years at Lambuth Memorial Preschool where she was loved and known by many little ones as "Miss Jane." She was a longtime member of Johnson Memorial and Grace Presbyterian Church and worked with the children and youth programs and choirs. Jane loved Gospel music and vacationing on the Florida beaches with her family.
Survivors include her daughters, Debbie Stockwell (Jeff) and Nancy Hamm of Jackson, Julie Thurmond (Tom) of Lexington, TN, Tracey Stewart (Doug) of Tupelo, MS; grandchildren, Adam Thurmond, Travis Thurmond, Jessica Blankenship (Zack), April Harlow (Reid), Lorie Parker, Tiffany Hamm, Ben Stewart, Eli Stewart; and great-grandchildren, Hunter Parker, Maleigha Wilson, Lleyton Blankenship.
Visitation will be Monday, November 14, 2011 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., at George A. Smith & Sons North Chapel. Memorial service will be held at the chapel at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2011. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens.

I didn't know Mrs. Allen personally, but I do know Julie, Adam, and Travis and want them to know I'm sorry for their loss. Julie is a model loving daughter; I hope my kids are as kind and diligent when my health declines.
