Ted Lo Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 7, 2017.

Ted Lo, a long-time Lincoln resident, passed away on August 7, 2017. He was born on January 9, 1930 in Chutung, Taiwan to his father, Ji-Yuan Lo, a traditional medicine herbalist, and his mother, Fu-Mei He. At the time of Ted’s birth, Taiwan was under Japanese-rule and a colony of Japan. Ted grew up speaking Japanese and received a Japanese education. It was not until the end of World War II, when the Republic of China regained control of Taiwan, that Ted was introduced to the Chinese language and culture.

After graduating from Hsinchu High School, Ted was accepted into the Physics Department at National Taiwan University, the most prestigious university in Taiwan and one of the top ranked universities in the world. While in college, Ted’s mother passed away which deeply saddened Ted. When he graduated from college, Ted returned to his high school and taught physics until he came to the U.S.

On October 4th, 1960, Ted married Cha-huei. Together, they had one daughter, Jennifer, and three sons, Wayne, Mikel and Teddy. Their oldest, Jennifer has two daughters. Their oldest son, Wayne has two daughters and three sons. Their son Mikel has one son. Ted is very thankful to be blessed with a wonderful family.

On August, 12, 1962, Ted came to Greeley, Colorado to study science education on a Taiwanese government scholarship. As much as he wanted to remain in the US after his education, the conditions of his scholarship required him to return to Taiwan and teach for two years. In 1965, he came back to the U.S. and obtained a math teaching position in Kimball, Nebraska. One summer, after visiting the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) for a summer teacher training workshop, he found he preferred Lincoln and decided to stay. He enrolled at UNL, graduated with a Masters degree in Math, and worked at the Nebraska Department of Labor until retirement in 1993.

In 1967, Ted’s wife and children joined him in Lincoln. At the recommendation of their landlord, they started attending First Baptist Church. Soon after, the entire family became Christians and was baptized.

Ted was very athletic and enjoyed playing sports, participating in competitions and winning awards for tennis and ping-pong. He also enjoyed swimming and would visit the pool every morning before work. He continued swimming regularly even after retirement until 2016.

Ted also loved reconnecting with friends, especially those from high school and college. Throughout all these years, he has stayed in close contact with them. He especially loved connecting with them on class reunions in Japan and Taiwan, going each year until 2012. Ted lived a very rich and fulfilling life, and he is very thankful to have been so blessed.

Ted is survived by his wife, Cha-huei; daughter Jennifer Kilis; sons Wayne and his wife Lucinda, Mikel and his wife Tina Pai, and Teddy. He is also survived by eight grandchildren as well as his stepmother and 3 half-sisters.

Memorial Service will be held on Oct. 7, 2017 at 10am at First Baptist Church, 1340 K Street, Lincoln, NE with inurnment at Rose Hills Memorial Park and Mortuary, Whittier, CA on Dec. 2, 2017.

In lieu of gifts and flowers, family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church or the Chinese Christian Church of Lincoln (CCCL), both with addresses at 1340 K Street, Lincoln, NE 68508.
