Terry Leon Schultz, 71, of Orlando, Florida died at his home, on April 1st, 2015.
Terry was born in La Porte, Indiana to Nylla Eloa (Zahn) and the late George C. Schultz. The oldest of three boys, he enjoyed building model airplanes (remote control and string line) and go-karts. Terry played trombone and baritone horn in many school groups, from junior high school through college. His passion was progressive jazz and he was a member of the Newport Jazz Quartet and the Tom Milo Big Band, playing trombone and occasionally piano. He also played piano at the local Lions Club meetings. Terry earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Rose Hulman Institute of Technology, and Masters in Business Administration from Central Michigan University.
Terry worked briefly as a systems engineer with General Telephone & Electronics before joining the US Air Force where he served for 20 years before retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. During his early US Air Force program management career, he led the development and deployment of the first precision laser target designator and subsequent laser guided bomb programs. He held various staff officer positions with Air Force Material Command and was the Special Assistant to the USAF Deputy Chief of Staff for Research, Development and Acquisition. He was a project manager in the F-16 program office and held the position of Director of Projects in the B-2 System Program Office with responsibilities for all aspects of managing the engineering development of this strategic weapons system during it's early development.
Following his Air Force career Terry joined Lockheed Martin Corporation and worked for the company nearly 25 years before retiring in late 2013. During his career at Lockheed Martin he held several Program Director assignments including Ground Sensor Systems, Apache Longbow Fire Control Radar, the F/A-16 NITE Hawk laser target designator, and the Missile Launch Detector for the F-22A. He was also the Business Development Director for Missiles and Fire Control, LANTIRN, and Director of Logistics and Operations with Space Systems.
After retiring from Lockheed Martin, Terry briefly held the position of Chief Operating Officer for PatientFlow Rx, a company bringing process efficiency to the healthcare industry.
Terry was a Lions Club member in several local communities, a life member and chapter president of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, served as the Chairman of the Board of a continuous care retirement center, President of the congregational board of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and was an officer of his homeowners association. Terry enjoyed all kinds of trains, especially garden railroads. He enjoyed road trips in his BMW. He was a lifelong musician and singer.
Terry was preceded in death by his father, George. He is survived by his loving wife Vida Ann; daughters Heather (Arthur) Hernandez of Orlando, and Kristin (Michael) Soukup of South Barrington, Illinois; mother, Nylla Eloa of LaPorte, Indiana; brothers Thomas of St. Charles, Illinois and James of LaPorte, Indiana. I first met Terry in the mid 70's when we were both Captains in the same office at HQ AFSC Andrews AFB. Our paths crossed again at Wright Patterson AFB. In both places we socialized and had great times. Kept in touch after he went with Martin in Orlando. He helped my daughter move into her apartment in Orlando as she had her first post college job. Always cheerful and quick with the joke. You done good for your country and your family - RIP.

Susan and I were deeply saddened upon hearing of Terry's recent death.
Terry was a friend from high school days when we both played in the concert band. He and I worked on various electric and electronic projects together during that time and I could see then that he would have a successful career involving his skills and interests in that area. Even then Terry's patriotism was clearly apparent, maturing into his contributions during his US Air Force tenure. Terry gave of himself to many charitable causes beginning as early as his high school days. His organizational skills and aptitude developed commensurate with his awareness of the needs of his society and country. He was adept at explaining and educating the public as well as decision-makers. We are all grateful for that. Especially remarkable was that he constantly generated enthusiasm and excitement when describing his projects.
Our deepest sympathies go out to the family. To his mother, Eloa, who was always so kind and understanding when I or my brother spent time after school at the Schultz's home in Indiana: As an adult, I can now understand her generosity much better than I might have then. The Schultz household was always a welcoming place to visit. Lieutenant Colonel Schultz and Vida Ann followed this tradition when my wife and I were able to visit their home in Ohio. Thank you Vida Ann for your hospitality. We are sure that Terry rests now in a welcoming and comforting place. Tom and Jimmy, we hope to see you next time we get to the Midwest. You will all be in our thoughts and prayers.
I will contact our friends Jan and Elza, who were warmly invited into the Schultz home one Easter when they experienced travel difficulties in Florida. They were so grateful to meet the Schultz's and to be able to celebrate Easter in a true Christian setting. It meant a lot to them and gave them a sense of what a true American welcome is.

We first met Terry when stationed at Eglin AFB, FL in spring 1971. Terry and I worked together in the Air Force Armament and Test Lab at Eglin in Ft Walton, Bch, FL. Terry was a very a very bright and innovative young Captain. He was developing and testing some of the Air Force's most advanced guided weapons. I was one of his procurement officers during a time of high military activity in SE Asia. I recall many exciting events in our tour at Eglin. Terry was always the musical highlight of all our social gatherings. To me Terry was one of the most dedicated and hardest working fellow officers I have ever known. His integrity was always foremost in his decision making and actions. Our families have stayed in touch through the years at Martin Marietta and in retirement in Windermere/Orlando, FL.

God took him back to his rewards in heaven which he truly earned by living such an exemplary life full of love and caring and sharing himself in so many ways. WillowWood is a far richer place thanks to all Terry's gracious contributions of his time and talents. I marveled at the man. He was a proud American, a deeply spiritual man, kind and sweet, and one of my favorite neighbors.

Terry was always totally committed to serving others. He played a significant role in guiding St Paul's Lutheran Church and Orlando Lutheran Towers thru some very trying times. No matter how difficult the circumstances, he was always positive and cheerful. He ended each meeting with prayer and with his typical "cheers". On the occasion of an especially stressful meeting he asked me as "the only Christian left standing" to offer the prayer. Terry had a firm faith in the Lord. He was a good and loyal friend and because Christ lives I know that I will see my friend again.
