Thelma Minton-Burch Foster was born on March 31, 1924 at Harlem Hospital to the late Catherine Minton Burch and Earl Burch. She was the youngest of three girls. Thelma grew up in Harlem, and it was there where she had her schooling through high school.
She married the late Fredrick (Freddy) Foster and moved to Bushwick Houses in Brooklyn, New York. She was well known in the community. She watched everyone's children as such, she started working for the Board of Education in a public school across the street. She then decided to spread her wings and took a test for a city job and started working for the City Morgue until her retirement, she also was a shop steward for DC37. Later in life she moved to Woodside, NY and began to look after kids again.
Thelma was affectionately known as "Auntie" to everyone. She often would hold a conversation with everyone she met, be it at the mailbox, bus stop or the store. She was a sweet, feisty, old lady who would tell it like it is. She would cuss you out and throw you out her house and then call you asking how were you doing and tell you how much she loved you. She was always the life of the party and would even out dance the younger generation.\Thelma would occasionally visit Community Church of Astoria with her family. In her quiet time she would read daily Psalm 23, The Lord's Prayer and recite it word by word.
Thelma departed on August 29, 2014. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Maude Bailey, and Laura Sullivan, her husband Freddy Foster as well as her nephew Harold Sullivan Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory, three nieces, Kathleen Marinia, Catherine Jordan, Maxine Sullian one nephew Melvin Sullivan (Mary), Five great nieces Debra (Everlasting), Sheila (Sam), Arlene Kelli (Ben), Melody, and Valerie, two great-nephews Melvin, Jake (Cynthia), nine great great nieces and nephews, Lenisha, Justin, Latressa, Kayla, Karon, Kenneth, Nicholas, Quentin, Cory and a host of family and friends.
