I just learned of Ted's passing a short time ago. The years I worked with him at Horis A, Ward, were some of the best.
I have many fond memories of Ted. He was a great mentor and friend. The thing that I always admired about him, was that I never heard him say a bad word about anyone. He will be missed.

My thoughts & prayers go out to Ted's family. He was a classmate at SWD, & we had several classes together, even though he was older. I'll always remember what an athlete Ted was & the time he broke his leg playing football. Seems like he was on crutches forever, but he just got around the school halls, stairs, etc., like everyone else did. He was a very caring, compassionate funeral home director who will certainly be missed by the community & all the families he served through the years. God Bless all of the family.

Nancy, Lana, Amy, Juanita & Family;
So sorry to hear of Ted's passing. We
lived next door to Ted & the Cash family on Flat Shoals Ave. in Atlanta. Ted & I
& other neighborhood boys used to play in
the large field behind our houses, when there wasn't a garden planted there. I'll have to admit, sometimes we even explored (?) the garden, hoping we would not be caught. We attended Faith Elementary School on Memorial Dr. even though I was 3 years older than Ted. Ted loved to sing MEETING IN THE AIR for my Grandmother Howell. I think Ted enjoyed it as much as she did. We had some good times together. We moved away & I attended Roosevelt High and Ted attended South West DeKalb High. In later years, Ted handled funeral arrangements for numerous members of the Terry family, Grandmother Howell, my wife Betty's mother & Father (the Hutto's). When my father passed away, Ted helped my Mom secure lots at Resthaven Cemetary. We will never forget Ted's kindness & compassion and the of Ted & the staff at Ward's Funeral Home on Candler Rd.. Ted will be missed by all. We have lost another fine Christian Man. You are all in our thoughts & prayers.

Your family is in our prayers. I remember Ted when he worked on Candler Road and loved to joke with my dad, Jesse Moon. Dad would come home and tell us of the jokes that Ted and Horis would play on my dad.
He always had a smile for everyone and was and made you feel comfortable . Ted was a special man and will be missed by so many.

Lana and Amy,
I am so sorry for your loss. I know how close you were to your father and what an influence he had on your life. He had such an amazing personality. He always made the best of any situation. He was an outstanding man and it seems that he has left us too soon. My heart is aching for you. May the memories help you find peace. I'm just a phone call away if you need anything. You will remain in my thoughts and prayers.

I received a phone call Monday notifying me of the death of Ted Cash. As a fellow funeral director and embalmer now for 30 years, I can say that during those 30 years I have NEVER met another collogue that had the natural, and at times profound, ability to comfort, encourage, and make an extremely difficult time in thousands of families lives, just a little easier, just a little lighter. It was truly amazing. I personally witnessed it time and time again. What a gem. On the other side, kind of “behind the scene so to speak” Ted Cash loved to have fun, and he did. One particular day I was the funeral director that had met with the family to make the arrangements and the day of the funeral drove the hearse to the cemetery leading the procession. Ted was there helping with the dismissal of the funeral service at the Candler Road Chapel. He took it upon himself to gather and instruct the pallbearers on how to place the casket in the back of the hearse. Ted closed the back door on the hearse as I was walking out of the chapel, patted me on the back and said “have a safe trip”. There is an adjustable casket stop in the back of a hearse that actually holds the casket in place while traveling. Mr. Ted Cash felt impelled to place said “stop” not against the casket, but in the very last, furthest position from the casket. The entire trip to the cemetery every time I would have to stop, take off, slow down or speed up, I could literally see the casket move back and forth 5-6 inches. I just knew the casket was actually hitting the back door of the hearse and it was only a matter of time before it fell out of the hearse with the family following closely behind me. It didn't. I returned to the funeral home that day, found Ted sitting at his desk in the funeral directors office with that huge smile and that absolutely contagious laugh of his that I had the privilege to see and hear on a regular basis. So many memories, awesome memories. Nancy, Lana, and Amy, I pray that God will comfort, bless, and wrap his loving arms around you during this difficult time. You three ladies were truly blessed to have such an amazing husband and father. Rest in peace Ted.

Nancy and Family, my deepest sympathy. Ted was one of the finest men I have ever known. It meant so much to me 13 years ago, when on his day off, he came to get my Mom when she passed away at home. And just 3 months ago he came to my Dad's visitation before he had the heart surgery. He was a wonderful friend and God blessed him with such a wonderful spirit. He always greeted me with a smile. I'll miss seeing him in Kroger and elsewhere. The SWD family lost one true Panther. Praying God will wrap his arms around all of you and give you comfort and peace. Donna Love Echols and family

Ted did so much to help our family in the deaths of my brother and sister-in-law (David and Eleanor Breedlove). Aside from that I knew him and Nita very well in other avenues of our lives. He was a customer at the drug store where I worked part time a few years back. Most recently, I saw him very often at the Oaks Golf Course where he played regularly until just a few months ago.
He was a very sincere person in many ways yet he was great fun to be around. He knew my deceased brother very well and was always joking about their past crazy stuff. I have known Nita since John B. Gordon Grammar School in East Atlanta. My prayers are with all of the family. A job well done
my friend Ted. Rest in peace.

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it's the memories of you that are the most precious.

Mr. Cash (Teddy Baby) to me was everything a Godly man should be. He loved his "girls" and there wasn't anything in this world more important to him than those 3 women. He put God first in his life and raised his children to do the same. His two grandchildren were like the moon to him and they thought he hung it. In my teens and very early adulthoodI looked at his marriage to Nancy *ahem Mrs. Cash* and thought they made it look so easy. I now know that it was hard work, dedication and love that made their marriage work they just made it "look easy". He was a loving disciple, husband, father and grandfather. Oh and if you didn't know, he made the BEST chili ever! If they play golf in heaven and I bet he is giving Michael a run for his money!
Love,
Franny

I attended a funeral service last week of a dear friend. I heard the most beautiful song about angels. After inquiring of the title, I was told it was Serenaded by Angels. It talks of angels serenading the loved one to heaven to see Him. I know Ted was indeed serenaded by angels to Heaven. He has served so many families during their grief. Now is his time with the angels and his Heavenly Father. Welcome to Paradise, Ted. You've earned it.

Ted was the first person I met at Horis A. Ward in Stockbridge as a young man scared to death of the big city of Atlanta. He took me under his wing as he did most students and I enjoyed him as a father figure while working for the funeral home and studying as an aspiring funeral director. We played golf together, had lots of fun, and although at the time I didn't realize it..... Ted was looking after us young men and gave us direction and knowledge about life, love, and funeral service. I will never forget the way he talked about his family and how proud he was of his wife and children. Ted had a gleam in his eye that was gentle and honest. He truly was one of my favorite people while working at Horis A. Ward as a mortuary student. Thanks Ted, and may your family be blessed in the coming days, weeks, and years as I'm sure they will miss you.
