Theola Allington Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 23, 2013.

Theola Ellen Allington passed away on December 16th, 2013 at the Odd Fellows home in Walla Walla, Washington. Theola was born on June 3rd, 1925 in Toppenish, Washington to George and Clara (nee Laviere) Chandler. She was the youngest of five children. She had three brothers, one of whom was her twin brother who was older in birth order, and a sister who died as an infant. Her father operated a truck garden, providing fresh fruits and vegetables for sale and her mother was a full time homemaker. Theola was very close to her parents and brothers. Her brother, Edward introduced her to her future husband, Earl Allington.

Theola and Earl married on October 23rd, 1942 and shortly afterward, Earl was shipped overseas to Africa and the Allied Invasion of Italy during World War II. During the war years, Theola worked in the shipyards in the Seattle area as a pipe fitter. After the war, the couple returned to the Yakima Valley to raise their family. Theola spent many years working in the food processing industry. She worked long shifts, but always found time to care for her family.

During their 63 years of marriage, Theola and Earl raised four children, and enjoyed numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Theola never met a baby that she didn't love. Her interests included visiting with family, traveling with her husband and watching sporting events. She loved to watch the Seahawks and Mariners, giving them "advice" when they weren't performing well. She was a life-long member of the Catholic Church, joining before her marriage and participating in many activities and church functions through the years. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Bill, Edward and Theodore; her infant sister, son James and her husband Earl.

Theola is survived by her daughter, Mary Scroggins of Yakima, Washington; her son and daughter in law, Ted and Edilcia Allington of Oviedo, Florida; and son and daughter in law, Tim and Tina Allington of Walla Walla, Washington; nine grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

A memorial service will be held in the spring at the St. Yves Church in Mossyrock, Washington. Interment will be private at the family's request. Memorial contributions can be made to the Catholic charity of your choice.
