Theresa was born on September 12, 1930, to Ludie Mae and Maurice J. Falgout. She was a lifelong resident of Tuscaloosa, where she worked at Liberty National Life Insurance Company, Jones-Speigner Funeral Home, and Hayes Chapel Funeral Home, and spent 20 years as administrative assistant at West Alabama Rehabilitation Center, where she initiated the first Mall Ball.

Theresa was a faithful Christian, serving as Ladies Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School director, and choir member at West End Baptist Church for over 25 years before becoming a member of First Baptist Church in 1971. Her love for God's word was written in her daily life, and she was best known among family and beloved friends as a prayer warrior. Her grandchildren called her "Sweetmomma", which she was. She became known as "Sweetmomma" to all their friends. She was a living testament to her love and commitment to God and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband of 58 years, Elton H. Avery.

She is survived by her son, Handy Avery (Elaine) of Huntsville; her daughter, Terri Malone (Chuck) of Tuscaloosa; her grandchildren, Ashley Quattlebaum (John) of Huntsville, Chase Malone (fiancée Mandie Pugh) of Tuscaloosa, and Katie Schmaeling (Tom) of Birmingham; her brothers, Sonny Falgout (Ann) of Northport and Rev. Don Falgout (Shelia) of Dothan; her sisters-in-law, Emmie Steele Avery and Ethel Avery of Tuscaloosa; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Pallbearers will be her nephews, Bart Avery, Dr. Dan Avery, David Avery, Ernest Avery, Sammy Avery, Bob Bamberg, Dave Bamberg, Chris Falgout, Rev. David Falgout, Dr. Joey Falgout, and Mike Howington.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Richard and Lori Shamblin, Dr. Ron McCormack, Dr. George Miller, and the Hardy families. We appreciate all the nurses, staff, and caregivers at Internal Medicine Associates, Merrill Gardens, LaRocca Nursing Home, and Hospice of West Alabama.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Music Ministry of Weatherly Heights Baptist Church in Huntsville, First Baptist Church and the Second Hand Rose Ministry, or Hospice of West Alabama.
