Theresa Wilson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 17, 2014.

Theresa "Terry" (Pye) Wilson passed away peacefully with family at her side on Sunday, February 16, 2014.

Terry was born in Flushing, NY on April 30, 1929 to Frank and Josephine Pye. She moved to Greenwich as a young girl and attended St. Mary's and Greenwich Public schools with the class of 1947.

Terry married Bill Wilson and raised their four children in Glenville, where they owned and operated the New Beagle Inn for many years. She touched many people through various jobs she held after closing the Beagle, including the junior department of The Dress Box, and as the hostess at The Horseneck Tavern. She was the familiar friendly face behind the service counter of Toyota of Greenwich, always answering the phone with that sultry voice. She retired from Toyota at age 65 and took a job at Greenwich Library at the Welcome desk where she warmly welcomed patrons (both new and old friends) every weekday until retirement about a year and a half ago.

Terry was fiercely proud of her Irish heritage and her family ties in County Tyrone, Ireland. She had an extraordinary sense of humor (often catching people off guard); she was the life of any party and especially enjoyed a great meal, a drink and gathering with family and friends. Some of her favorite things were reading, cooking, animals, music and dancing, trips to Island Beach and above all else, her family. Her quick wit and warm personality will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Terry is survived by her children: Ginger Phelps (Danny), Bonnie Cassone, and Warren Wilson (Jayne). Also surviving are her grandchildren; Meaghan, Jason, Sean, Betsey, Erica, Brooke, Patrick and Will and two great-grandchildren; Brandon and Max. She was pre-deceased by her husband Bill and son Scott.

The family wishes to thank all of the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff who took such good care of her through the years, especially those at Nathaniel Witherell and the Mews.

A mass of celebration will be held at St. Mary's on Greenwich Avenue on Saturday, February 22nd at 11AM followed by a gathering at The Greenwich Boat & Yacht Club. There will be no calling hours as her wishes were to have a mass and a "party" to celebrate her life. Burial will be privately held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation in her name to Neighbor to Neighbor, The Nathaniel Witherell, or the charity of your choice.

Dear Warren & Family -
I was very saddened to learn of the passing of your mother. She was a very special lady who was always very kind and welcoming to me. No matter how many times she asked me to call her "Terry" I could not do it as I had the utmost respect for her and the family.

Rest in peace, Mrs. Wilson.

Dear Bonnie -
I'm so saddened to hear of your mom's passing. Mrs. Wilson was my second mother, only much more fun and savvy. . She fed me well and made sure I was behaving (and she always knew when we weren't!). Your mom taught me so many valuable life lessons -- I remember her fondly.
Love, Daria

My husband Red and I moved from Greenwich 3 years ago, but we took with us all the wonderful memories of Greenwich, what a great town. When you think of Greenwich you think of St. Patrick's Day Parade, Island Beach and TERRY WILSON, she was such a big part of everyone's lives, what a great lady, what a credit to the town she lived.

Carol P. DiMassimo

To Ginger, Bonnie and Warren, and Terry's extended families.
May I extend my profound sympathy in the loss of your Mom, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. Terry was a great lady, both at Toyota and Greenwich Library. She worked along with my son, Jay O'Connell, in the service department and every time I visited, she made me laugh. She was so gentle and kind with a soft-spoken voice. She loved my son; which made her #1 in "my" book. But it was her sense of humor, facts about life, her jokes and her personality that also made her a wonderful woman to know. Someone like Terry comes into your lifetime only once; and I'm glad I had the pleasure of knowing her, even for a few years. She is on her "journey home" and will be met by Bill and Scott, who will welcome her with open arms. Much love to the entire family. Carol O'Connell DiMassimo

We all grew up calling her Aunt Terry with many fond memories of running around the back yard behind the Weaver St. house as kids. We spent many days at that house as kids - I remember the large cookie jar she had in the kitchen downstairs, a kids favorite. Home movies of an Easter in the rear yard when my Dad sat in Terry's chair and broke it - he had a habit of doing that. Terry always brightened up every party with her presence and had a gift of always making you feel special in her eyes whenever she saw you. Last year at our Marr-Di-Gras party she brought the house down with her special sense of humor, she never lost it. She never let me forget that she rescued me from directing traffic in the middle of the Post Rd. when I was 5. We will all miss her dearly, the parties will never be the same, she was one of a kind. Our prayers are with the entire Wilson family.

Warren and Family:

We are sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. We're shocked. We saw her last week at Nathaniel Witherall and she looked great - - she was happy, content and observing people in the nurses station. I remember her being very social and liked to be around people. She was a good lady!
We wish you well with the service and the party as we will be in VT for the weekend.
Our condolences:

Warren, Ginger & Bonnie, so sorry to hear about your mom. She was an upbeat and wonderful person. Through the years whenever I would run into her, she always made me laugh. If in the company of someone else while speaking with me, she would love to tell them what mischief Warren, Tommy, David and myself would get into as young kids. She would include Raymond and David on some occasions too. Always called your mom Mrs Wilson, never her first name...just out of respect. Mom, Regina, Joann and their families also would like to send their prayers and condolences.
