.
Family and friends are invited to visitation Friday, July 4, 2014, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Cason Monk-Metcalf.

Thetys was preceded in death by parents; brothers, Elliot and Billy; husbands, Preston Worley and Newt Beard; and daughter, Mary Sullivan.

She is survived by son, Dr. Joel Worley and his wife Sonya of Nacogdoches; daughters, Judy Burkett and her husband Mike of Cypress, and Nancy Black and her husband Lynn of Nacogdoches; ten grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

As a child of an itinerant farmer, Thetys lived in several small Texas towns including Celeste, Bloomberg, Crystal City, Minden, Mt. Enterprise, and County Line.Thetys married Preston Worley in 1936. They, too, moved around a lot throughout East Texas, living in Longbranch, Silsbee, Port Neches, Goodrich, Mt. Enterprise, Carthage, and finally settling in Nacogdoches. Thetys enjoyed her role as a farmer's wife and mother. She loved to cook and try new recipes. She was also an excellent seamstress, making most of the clothes she and her children wore. After moving to Nacogdoches she worked at the SFA post office and at Memorial Hospital as a Ward Clerk before retiring to take care of her mother.Preston died in 1992 after they had celebrated 56 wonderful years together. Thetys continued to live in Nacogdoches taking care of her daughter, Mary until her death in 1999. Thetys was a member of the Stallings Drive (Mound and Star) Church of Christ in Nacogdoches for many years. It is there that she met Newt Beard. They married in 2003. She was 86, he 95. Theirs was a magical sunset romance. As Newt would say, "they lived on Cloud Nine." When he passed away in 2012, Thetys moved to Cypress to be near her daughter, Judy, and lived there until just before her death. She will be interred at the Old Shiloh Cemetery in Rusk County, Texas, where her first husband, her daughter, and five generations of her family are buried.

Thetys was a wonderful blessing to all who knew her. She was a great example of a Christian wife and mother, and her children truly "rise up and call her blessed."
