Thomas Edward Osteen 84 of Mt. Hope passed away on Friday June 16, 2017. Born April 16, 1933, he was the son of the late Thomas and Bonnie Adams Osteen.
Thomas was a member of Pax Branch Baptist Church. He served and retired from the US Army after 22 years and served three tours in Vietnam and Korea. He was a life time member of the VFW and attended the Navy and Army Aviation Group Reunion every year. Thomas enjoyed going to church, bowling, traveling and being with his family.
In addition to his parents, Thomas is preceded in death by his second spouse, Mildred Shumate Osteen; step-son, Dwight Walter; brother, Bill Osteen and sister, Mildred Osteen.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Verna Roop Osteen; son, Rick Osteen and wife, Karen of Orlando, FL; step-sons, Frank Hindson and wife, Diane of Fayetteville, Thomas Walter and wife, Wendy of Havre de Grace, MD, Donald Walter and wife, Sheila of Shady Spring; daughter, Patty Bright of Tombstone, AZ; step-daughters, Sally Hylton of Prosperity, Libby Lewis and husband, Jim of Huntington, Mary Brown and husband, Charlie of Charlotte, Judith Scotten and husband, John of Bel Air, MD; Pamela Wozniak of Austin, TX, Katharine Brown of Beckley, Karen Hughes and husband, Rick of Orlando, FL, Katharine Payne and husband, Mark of Port Charlotte, FL and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday at Pax Branch Baptist Church with Pastor Sam Vance officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may gather with the family Wednesday from 6 – 9 PM at Blue Ridge Funeral Home.
