I was most sad to learn of Tom's passing from a close family friend yesterday. I had the honor & pleasure to serve with him in the L-1011 program, as others have noted here. My comment to his daughter's close friend was that he was an impressively class act and a total gentleman. Our family's prayers & sympathy go out to Tom's family and friends for your loss, as well as our thanks for his service to our Country and superb conduct & contribution to the Delta pilot group. God Bless Captain Deriso and comfort his family at this difficult time. I will remember him fondly.
Very Respectfully, The O'Brien Family

Susan, I am sorry that I can not make it for the funeral. I have fond memories of growing up with Tom in Americus. I am not sure that either one of us ever really grew up. We had lots of fun and while we occasionally got into trouble - it wasn't our fault. I will miss him.

Susan, Tom was a year ahead of me at AHS. I shall always remember Tom's wide smile and his sense of humor. My sister, Jo Anne, dated Jerry in the tenth grade. From the Facebook videos and his pictures here, he was a remarkable fellow. I wish I had known him after High School. May God continue to bless you and your family.

I have never met a man like Tom. He had the biggest heart, always thinking of others. He was very passionate about a lot of things and backed up his feelings with actions. He was a dedicated man of God who served God in many ways. I am very proud and fortunate to say he was a good friend. I learned a lot from him and will miss him very much.

We met Tom and Susan for the first time at Dyess AFB back in 1971 at our first assignment after pilot training. They became like family to us, and still are to this day. To know Tom was to respect, admire, and love him. We will miss him greatly but never forget him, and the love that he had for his family, friends, God and country.

It was my pleasure to have worked briefly with Tom when he was a Second Officer Instructor on the L-1011 Tristar in the Delta Training Department. He was one of those rare folks who always had a smile on his face, and always gave more than he received. I hope your flight west was a smooth one, old friend.
