Thomas Mac Lakes
"Tommy"
Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, and Brother passed away peacefully at home in Highland on July 22 at the age of 80. Tommy was born September 26th 1932 in San Bernardino, California to Lee and Mabel Lakes. After graduating from San Bernardino High School he joined the Navy. In 1955 he went to work for Southern California Edison. In 1966 he married the love of his life Mary and together they raised five daughters.
In 1988 he retired from Southern California Edison as a Service Crew Foreman. He then continued to work throughout his retirement doing contract work for Edison, Herman Weissker Inc. and PAR Electric. Growing up Tommy enjoyed hunting and fishing with his dad and three brothers. Tommy's passion was his family and his dog Rocky. While raising his girls, he loved taking them camping, fishing, boating, and skiing. He coached softball and enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids play a variety of sports.
Tommy will be remembered by all for his sweet kind nature and his wonderful sense of humor. He loved playing jokes on his family and friends. He truly touched the hearts of all who knew him. He will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.
He is survived by his wife Mary, daughters Vicki, Becki, Lesli (Rick), Tammi (Tim), and Carri, grandchildren Allen, Adam, Carinn, Tommy, Brennen, Deanna, Ren, Carissa, Chelsy, Madison, Cameron, Courtney, Hailey, 8 great grandchildren, brother Robert (Yvonne), and many nieces and nephews. There will only ever be one Tommy Lakes. The world was a better place having him in it. We were better off knowing him as we both worked in san berdoo district for some time. He was a joy to know and work with. He did pull some harmless pranks on myself on the service truck. He was a true gentleman and inspiration. Rest in peace Tommy.

Tom and Mary were a special couple that I have known since the day they were married. He and my husband worked together in the early days of Edison.. We hope Mary and his whole family can find peace & contentment in the love and memories they shared..

I always felt loved & welcomed in the Lakes home, & was treated like family... I called Tommy Dad too (Two!). What a wonderful, kind, sweet caring man. You will be missed beyond words.

Tom will always be one of the coolest humans that I have ever known, the world would be a much better place if we could emulate just a fraction of the love that poured from the heart of just this one man. Long before he became my father-in-law, he became my friend, and the admiration I have for him could never be adequately described with printed words. To say that I loved him is a complete understatement, and I will miss him every day. Dad, adding our own color commentary to the CBS weather report will never be the same! Enjoy the view my friend, until we meet again.

I will always have fond memories of good times at the Lakes house. I never had roll models growing up, and I spent many hours with Becki and Lesli at their house. I was always treated like part of the family. You will be missed, but always in my heart. Prayers to the family

Tom was someone my children looked up too, I would take them to the Edison yard to have dinner with Harry. Tom would be pulling into the garage and ring that special little bell on that giant truck, They just loved him, To my children he was a gentle giant, always happy to see them. His kindness and his generosity was something Harry and I always admired. In life one is blessed when they can meet one of God's special angels. The Vasilakis family was so blessed when Tom Lakes came into our lives. Our deepest condolences to the family, we will keep in our prayers.

It's difficult to even express how much Grampie meant to me. He was kind, funny, humble, and above all, a great man. My best memories of Grampie were during the years he and Grammie lived in Lake Havasu. I'm sure some of his fondest memories were from his havasu days. There's something about taking a walk along the channel near the London Bridge on a busy weekend, well nevermind, Grampie knows where I'm going with this. So many memories live on in my head. I will never forget going over to Grammie and Grampie's place to watch pay per view boxing (watching Holyfield get his ear bit off), playing pool, swimming in their backyard, and just having a blast spending quality time with Grampie. Grampie brought so much joy to my life and I will forever miss him. I Love you Grampie.

I had to be the most gullible grandchild he had. I believed every tall tale and joke he pulled. I will never forget his white tic tacs spit on the ground as a door swung open in his direction. His laugh will not be forgotten and his pranks will continue on!

Words simply can not express how sorry I am for your tremendous loss. I am sharing in your great sadness.

Tom was such a neat person and will always have a very special place in my heart. I will never forget my "Tommy Boy", that's for sure!

He made you feel so comfortable and loved just by being in his sweet presence. What a treat it was to have the chance to sit and visit a while. Moments I remember will now be treasured in my heart forever. I loved both Tom and Mary from the first time I had the pleasure of meeting them many years ago. I am privileged and honored to have them in my life. We struck an instant bond and genuine friendship. What beautiful people! I am truly blessed to call them my friends! Thank you for all the ways you have caused my heart to smile. I will miss Tom more than I can say.

Although I don't know all of the daughters as well as my dear friend, Vicki, my heart goes out to each one of you and your families. I know how much he loved you all. May the wonderful memories you have bring you much comfort during this most difficult time.

Wishing I could be there with you.

Sending a great big hug and all my love,
xo

I lost part of my world when he passed away. He was a hell of a brother, friend and companion for all of his life. Best Disposition of anybody I ever knew. He was fun to be with, travel with or whatever... Never knew an enemy.
First time I seen Tommy he was laying next to his twin brother Freddy on a pillow. It was quite exciting. It wasn't long and we had our battles and good times.
I sold Liberty magazines downtown at department stores and what not. Tommy was my number one sales man. He had a little lisp of some kind and called them "Iberty's", "Get your Iberty magaszine". He was so damn cute they couldn't resist him.
I taught my brothers how to ski and we enjoyed skiing together. We couldn't afford lift tickets so we hiked the mountain and skied down.
We use to go to Fairmont Park to fish. That's were my dad liked to fish.
We use to go rabbit hunting, quail and deer hunting. A lot of times that's all the meat we had. Every Thanksgiving we went hunting.
Margaret Quiel still remembered little Tommy coming down to Curry's Icecream on 7th and E. There was quite a little shopping center at the time with Berks market and a couple markets there. Tommy would go in there and flirt with her and she'd end up giving the little stinker an icecream. He was probably in grammer school at that time.
That's about the same time he use to sell his dog to the neighbor. He had a little black chow. This old man that lived around the corner walked down our sidewalk and he would comment on the dog, "that's a pretty nice dog". He would ask Tommy if he wanted to sell him. Tommy would say sure, for a nickle, And the dog would follow the old man. I would ask Tommy if he wasn't going to miss the dog. He'd say, No, the dog will come back. And it always did. That old man liked Tommy and would buy that dog every so often.

Time past,We grew old and had great families that kept us busy with multiple activities.
We lived for our families.
We worked very hard to provide and entertain our families. But the accomplishment and results were quite rewarding.
I can remember Tommy coming by after Girls softball games and asking him why he didn't come over where the boys were. And he said What's boys? He enjoyed his girls...
I will miss our communications immensely.
Yvonne and I will greatly miss you. Love always and forever!

I want to thank all of you for your kind words about Tom, known to me as Grampi. We have all enjoyed reading your posts. Grampi would never let me down. Whenever I needed a good laugh, I would call him. He was the most caring, hilarious person I know. He would send me some of the funniest jokes, and people would be shocked that my grandpa sent them to me, and I would say, "You don't know my Grampi, he is one of a kind and hilarious". Grammi and Grampi were the couple I always looked up to and strived to be like. They could always get through any situation with humor and teamwork. Luke and the girls and I are going to miss you so much, but you will always be in our hearts and in our thoughts, especially when someone tells a good joke. Love you forever and always!

Uncle Tom was my Dad's twin brother & I loved him more than words can describe. Tom was always there for my Dad & when our Dad (Fred) passed away he was there for my sister & I. Losing a Dad is one of the hardest things you'll ever have to endure but losing Uncle Tom was equally emotional & sad for me. I loved him for some many reasons, but I will especially miss his laugh, his smile, his teasing & our conversations on the phone. Uncle Tom give my Dad a big hug from me, miss you both.
