Thomas Moses Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 6, 2014.

Thomas Moses, 52, of Roswell, GA, passed away Monday, August 4th, 2014, after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. Tom was the son of the late Mr. Douglas Moses Jr. and Mrs. Lois Moses of Sumter, SC. He was raised in Sumter, where he attended Wilson Hall and was an Eagle Scout. He graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 1983 with a bachelor's degree in aeronautical engineering. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Air Force for 8 years, including a tour in Desert Storm, leaving the service as a Captain. He met his wife, Merilyn, in Zweibruecken, Germany, and they were married for nearly 27 years. After leaving the military, he worked as a pilot for Delta Airlines for 23 years where he was a Captain at the time of his diagnosis. He was very involved in his Catholic spiritual life, attending daily masses, bible study groups, and becoming a Knight of Columbus. He was also an avid tennis player, winning multiple championship tournaments at the Country Club of Roswell. He enjoyed biking (finishing the Bike Ride Across Georgia and Georgia Century Rides), collecting music, and fantasy football. In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by his two daughters, Kathryn Anderson (Brett Anderson) and Jean Moses, and one grandchild, Aubrie Anderson. He is also survived by his mother and three siblings: Douglas Moses III, Nancy Ketchum, and Timothy Moses, and many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 8th, 2014 at St. Brigid Catholic Church 3400 Old Alabama Road, Johns Creek. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. at St. Brigid Catholic Church with a rosary prayer immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial gifts to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network or Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Georgia (svdpatl.org) in Mr. Moses' memory.

Tom was such a cool guy at the Academy. He was an inspiration to me and others as bean heads in 1983. I have 2 memories that of him I will never forget. He helped me make it through and I will always be grateful. I look forward to laughing with him in heaven and sharing memories long ago. Blessings to his family. What a great dude!

The news of Tom's passing hits very hard; the world has seen a bright light extinguished far too early. I cherish the memories of our days at the academy and especially when we were in the same squadron (CS-39) and then at UPT together!
Cleared above FL500 my friend, soar with the angels!

Tom was a wonderful person with a very warm and comforting smile. It was a real pleasure to know him and to share time together at Saint Brigid and Starbucks. I look forward to meeting him again in heaven.

I just learned of Tom's death. I am so sorry for your loss. When I saw you the other day, I wished I had known about his illness. I could have started my prayers earlier. But you and your family are in my prayers now! I pray that you and your children will have loving memories to comfort you for many, many years. May Tom be resting in the arms of our Lord, peaceful, and watching over you all.

I wasn't in the same C141 squadron as Tom but we came to Atlanta for the Delta interview at the same time. I didn't know I had to have workout clothes for day two of the interview. Tom said he knew how to get around Atlanta on Marta so he took me to a mall the evening of day one. Tom was certainly one of the good guys. Dewayne "Ed" Ediger

Godspeed my friend. I cherish all the great memories we had flying C141s in the good old days.
