In Phoenix, Az. on November 20, Tom crossed the bar to enter eternal rest with our heavenly father. He had battled esophageal cancer for nearly 2 years. Tom was born November 26, 1942 in East Providence, son of Manuel and Marie Nunes. After Tom graduated from Cranston High School in 1960, he entered the US Coast Guard Academy in New London, Ct. He was commissioned an Ensign in 1964 and served for 20 years, retiring as a Commander in 1984. In Phoenix, Az. on November 20, Tom crossed the bar to enter eternal rest with our heavenly father. He had battled esophageal cancer for nearly 2 years. Tom was born November 26, 1942 in East Providence, son of Manuel and Marie Nunes. After Tom graduated from Cranston High School in 1960, he entered the US Coast Guard Academy in New London, Ct. He was commissioned an Ensign in 1964 and served for 20 years, retiring as a Commander in 1984. During his service time he received a Master's Degree in Public Administration from New York University in 1974. Entering the private sector, he served in management positions, retiring as international marketing manager for Jensen Tools, his dream job. Tom once again joined the Coast Guard as an Auxiliary member, where he developed a public affairs course taught nationwide. A good man who always saw possibilities in any endeavor. In 1964, he married Pamela Monti of Cranston and they raised three children, Daniel, Jennifer, and Christopher. Besides his beloved wife and children he is survived by 9 grandchildren. The Visitation will be at Corpus Christi Catholic Church 3550 E. Knox Rd. Phoenix, Friday November 23 10:00 a.m. with the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at the Church. The family prefers donations be made to: USCG Alumni Association; Cadet Activity Fund. Arrangements are entrusted to Carr-Tenney Mortuary, Tempe.
