Staff Sgt. Jesse Thomas Pike, 94 of Athens, died Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Athens Limestone Hospital. The funeral service wil be Sunday at 3 p.m. at McConnell Memorial Chapel with brother Eddie Gooch officiataing. The visitation will be Sunday from 1-2:45 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Mr. Pike was born November 23, 1919 in Capshaw, AL to William Franklin Pike and Bessie Worthey Pike. Staff Sgt. Pike served in the U.S. Army for 4 Years in World War II- in the wave of the Normandy Invasion. He served in the 4th division 22nd infantry. Mr. Pike was born November 23, 1919 in Capshaw, AL to William Franklin Pike and Bessie Worthey Pike. Staff Sgt. Pike served in the U.S. Army for 4 Years in World War II- in the wave of the Normandy Invasion. He served in the 4th division 22nd infantry. He received a Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, and a Purple Heart. He owned Pike's Grocery on Nick Davis Road for 50 years. He owned White Dove Green Houses. He loved people, and after he retired he loved to raise vegetables and sell them at the Farmers Market. He was an avid Alabama fan. He was a member of Isom's Chapel United Methodist Church since 1946.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruby Henderson Pike, one grandson, Timothy Michael Harper, 5 sisters, and 3 brothers.
Survivors include on daughter, Betty Jean Harper of Athens, one sister, Rosetta Landers of Athens, and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Howard Wallace, Dr. Milton George, James Pike, Gary Burgett, Phillip Wagnon, and Charles Privett.
Honorary Pallbearers will be his friends from Hardee's Breakfast group.
