Thomas Anthony Slaven, 79, of Fresno,
died Wednesday, July 17, 2013. He was born in
Woodland, Ca on March 7, 1934
to Leo and Phyllis Slaven and was
raised in Zamora, Ca. Tom graduated from
Woodland High School, served in Korea
with the United States Army, received a
BA in History from St. Michael's College of
Santa Fe, New Mexico, and attended
UCLA. He married Martha Krmpotich on
February 8, 1969 at St. Anthony's Croatian
Catholic Church in Los Angeles, Ca.
Tom worked for the State of California for
over 40 years.He was an active parishioner
at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church
in Clovis, where he was an usher,and a long-time
supporter of OLPH school. He served as an
officer for both the Croatian Fraternal Union and
the All-Slavonic American Association. Tom
spearheaded successful membership and
fundraising efforts for the San Joaquin Memorial
High School Men's Booster Club and was an avid
supporter of SJM and Fresno State athletics,
particularly Bulldog Softball. He is survived by his wife,
Martha; daughter, Katherine Slaven of Seattle, Wa.,
daughter, Maryanne Smith and her husband
Keven Smith of Clovis, Ca; and his grandchildren
Milana and Thomas Smith of Clovis, Ca. He is also
survived by his brother,
Robert Slaven; his sister, Joanne Wilson; as well
as many other relatives.
Visitation will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home on Monday, July 22, 2013, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
