Thomas Sublett Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 14, 2012.

The family of Tom Sublett will receive friends this evening at St. Mark's Episcopal Church from 5 to 7 p.m.

A Requiem Memorial Eucharist will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark's. Through the generosity of First United Methodist Church, a reception will be held following the service at the Fellowship Hall provided by the Guilds of St. Mark's Episcopal Church.

Tom, married to Carol Ann Sublett for 26 years and father of four children, lived a loving and dedicated family life. Although he gave much to his professional and civic life, his family always came first. His children, Leslie Ann Gordy (Sam), Erin Catherine, Reid Thomas (Kathryn) and Grant James, and his grandchildren, Baylor Thomas Gordy and Marley Rose Gordy were always the center and focus of his life. His devotion to family included his brothers, James Edward and Charles Nystrom; sisters, Catherine Read Greeson and Wendy Asbury (John); aunts, Sylvia Sublett Jones and Mary Jane LeFebvre (Mike); uncle, Joseph Catasca (Georgia); as well as many nieces and nephews.

His service extended throughout this community beginning with his church, where he served as both a senior and junior warden, held fundraising roles, and helped plan and relocate St. Mark's Hello GoodBuy Thrift Store.

He was a founding member of the Alexis de Tocqueville Society of the United Way and served on the boards of directors of St. Simons Land Trust, United Way, the Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club, the Red Cross, Morningstar and Salvation Army. The Community Foundation, which has been a force for funding many worthy groups in Glynn County, benefitted from
Tom's work to help start and fund the organization. His generosity touched many people and organizations in this community.

He was a 1984 graduate of Virginia Tech, the University of Georgia Carl Vinson Institute and was a licensed Realtor in the state of Georgia. Tom served the residents of Glynn County as county commissioner since 2008.

Tom and his family moved here Aug. 3, 1999, when he accepted the position of vice president of operations at King & Prince Seafood, where he retired as senior vice president of operations. He was employed as a commercial-industrial Realtor at Parker-Kaufman.

Honorary pallbearers are Robert P. Brubaker, Glynn County Commissioners Amy Callaway, Mary Hunt, Richard Strickland, Jerome Clark, Clyde Taylor and Bob Coleman, County Administrator Alan Ours and County Attorney Aaron Mumford. Ushers include Allen Whittington, Bill Parker, Dwayne Johnson, Dave Ingold, Steve McNicoll and Mike Ferguson.

Memorials may be made in his memory to St. Mark's Episcopal Church or to United Way of Glynn.

Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
