Thurman Elliott Kitchen, 71, passed away June 8, 2017 in Austin, TX. Thurman Elliott Kitchen was born on January 2, 1946 to Ralph and Jewell Kitchen in Victoria, TX. While growing up he attended school in Port Lavaca, TX. When he was a freshman in high school he moved to Nashville, TN to live with his sister Jo Ann and brother-in-law Robert Dickerson. He attended Father Ryan Catholic High School where he graduated in 1964. After graduation from high school Thurman entered Howard University in Washington D.C., he spent a year at Howard University then he transferred to Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, TX. He received a degree in Business from Huston-Tillotson University.
Thurman met Carolyn Norman while attending Huston-Tillotson University and they were married in 1969. To this union three children were born: Kiethe, Thurman J, and Jory Jennifer. Thurman and his family moved to Port Lavaca, TX where he was employed at Alcoa Aluminum Company in Port Comfort, TX as a buyer and later transferred to the company in Palestine, TX and then Mobile, AL. Thurman retired from Alcoa in 1982. The family then moved to Austin, TX where he worked for Motorola Inc., for a short time. After that Thurman went to work for the State of Texas Transportation Department as a System Analyst. He retired from the State in 2001.
Thurman is preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Jewell Kitchen and a brother Ralph Kitchen.
Thurman is survived by his children: Kiethe (Adriene) of Austin, TX; Thurman J. of Austin and Jory Jennifer Seranaldi (Daniel) of Arlington, TX; and Vanessa Rogers of Houston, TX; and a sister, Jo Ann Dickerson (Bob) of Hutto, TX., four grandchildren: Kiana, Amory, Maddie, Michael and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Memorial service will be held at Parsons House Austin, 1130 Camino La Costa, Austin, TX on June 23, 2017 at 1:00 p.m.
