Thurman Lee Gipson, 78. Thurman was born in Spring Hill, Arkansas. Later his entrepreneurial spirit led him to the Kansas City KS area with his young family where he owned and operated the Best Paint Store, a paint and decorating center, along with his wife up until the time of his retirement. In the 1960's he served his country through the National Guard Reserves and the United States Army Reserves. In the early morning hours of Tuesday, April 30 Thurman received complete healing following an extremely courageous battle with liver disease as he stepped into the glory of Heaven and the loving arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He leaves a true legacy of faith and love to his wife, Evleen of Hartman, AR and his two daughters, Diane (Jim) Phillips of Kansas City, KS and Debbie (Garry) Norman of Wichita KS. He loved fishing, camping, sharing stories with such animation you never wanted him to quit, and playing most any kind of competitive game because somehow he could usually figure out a way to win! He enjoyed four grandchildren: Greg Norman, Jessica Phillips, Alyssa Phillips and Brandon Norman and three great-grandchildren, Caden Hall, Kylie Hall, and Grayson Bricker. He also enjoyed making memories with his brother, Elvis (Linda) Gipson of Wagoner, OK , his sister, Ruby Rinke of Wichita and his sister-in-law, Alice Gipson, who actually was responsible for playing matchmaker years ago and introducing Thurman to his future bride and soulmate of 57 years, Evleen. Thurman's father and mother, Noah and Sylvia Gipson, and two brothers, Denver Gipson and Leon Gipson and countless other friends certainly greeted him as he entered Heaven's gates, but none would have been more important to Thurman than meeting His Lord on the other side. He loved visiting and sharing with others about Jesus and was a faithful servant who always put everyone else's needs above his own and would do about anything for everyone and anyone. His Arkansas hospitality and friendliness, as well as his southern accent, just had a way of putting people at ease. You will be greatly missed, but only temporarily, as we will see you again soon.Services will be held at the Hillside Funeral Home West, located at 2929 W. 13th North, Wichita KS at 1pm Saturday, May 4. Visitation will be Friday, May 3 1-8 pm with the family visitation from 6-8 pm. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, 6231 W. 47th Street South, Wichita KS. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Gospel of Grace Ministries Kid-n-Calf Mentoring Program, 639 N Baltimore, Derby KS, or the . He was a true entrepreneur, leaving Arkansas with his young family to move to Wichita. He had a competitive nature. Online condolences can be sent to www.HillsideFuneralHomeEast.com
