Timothy Michael Bird, born April 3, 1989, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2014 from complications of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at the Shands & UF Health Hospital. Tim was born in Maryland and became a permanent resident of Florida in 1993. Timothy attended the Spring Lake Elementary school in Altamonte Springs and later graduated from Sebring High School in 2007. After acceptance into the University of Florida, he became a resident of Gainesville.
Timothy has been a true inspiration to the Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy community for many years. As a fighter, Timothy has fought for his life the many times he has been hospitalization. His goal was not to die from this disease. His mother, Dee, advocated for him for many years and is the reason he lived a long and prosperous life. Timothy supports the Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy, an advocacy organization for Duchenne.
Timothy had a love for the Japanese Culture and Anime. With so many as his favorites, he spent hours watching videos, down-streaming on his Roku and, of course, his favorite, Hulu Plus. He enjoyed his music with Linkin Park and Evanescence being his favorite.
Timothy is survived by his mother, Deborah "Dee" & his father, Victor M. Lopez; his younger brother Joshua Lopez and sister Samantha Lopez. He is also survived by his Aunts Linda (Bird) Yates, Donna Bird, Jeanette (Bird) Buscemi and Uncles, Michael Bird and Danny A. Vieira; Carlos Lopez, Eddie Lopez, David Lopez, Jesus Lopez, Angel Lopez, and Alberto Lopez and the many cousins including Christian D. Bird who has been like a brother to him, his grandparents, Richard & Diana Bird, Angel Lopez Sr. and Mary Nieves, and life-long friend Kevin Hamilton.
He is preceded by his grandmother, Clara "Candy" Pichardo-Vieira.
Visitation will be held from 3:00pm-4:00pm on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, FL 34734. A Celebration of Timothy's life will be held at 4:00pm.

Although we never met in person, you & Tim have been such an inspiration to myself, as well as many others. He had so much strength, faith, determination & love...going on to continue his education, etc.... The love between the two of you was beautiful and he was blessed to have such a devoted, loving mother. I'm sorry you had to fight so hard for the proper care, help ,equipment & emotional support that was needed...but am so proud of how you continued to get him the best care you could. I believe he's now at peace with God. The day will come when you'll be together again. You will continue to be in my thoughts & prayers always, Dee. R.I.P. dear Timothy.

Dear Dee, I didn't know this was available until just now. I'm sorry I didn't meet him. We will meet when Jesus returns to claim all God's children. I am looking forward to that day. Until then, we can claim the promises in 2 Thessalonians 4:13-18. I'm thankful that we can "comfort one another with these words". God bless you Dee as he has plans for the rest of your life as you witness for Him and tell everyone you know about the love of Jesus. Marcia Dawson

Dee,
I first became aware of Timothy when friends of ours in Florida (Fort Walton Beach) received news that their son had been diagnosed with Duchenne. I started googling various Duchenne related sites and stumbled upon Tim's profile. When I saw that he was going to UF at the same time as Kate, I mentioned to her how inspiring it was to me that Tim was continuing to pursue his education even as he was fighting for his life. I am so glad that Kate got to know the two of you, and I am honored that I have been able to meet the two of you and stay connected with you through Facebook. I am so very sorry for your loss, and am humbled by your strength as a mother to provide Tim with the best life possible. I feel that his love for you helped him to fight as long as he did. I know that your journey will continue to be difficult without Tim, and I pray that all of the good memories will help you as you move forward. The donation to Tim's trust fund is from the entire Villacis family, including Kate. Dee, you will forever be in my thoughts and prayers, and I hope to see you again some day. Sending much love, Rose
