Timothy VanDine Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 17, 2012.

Timothy VanDine, 54

Yarmouth -- Timothy Wayne VanDine, 54, died at home at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 16, 2012 surrounded by family after a brief, but aggressive, battle with cancer.

Tim was born in Portland on October 15, 1958, the youngest son of Pauline (Murchie) and Frank VanDine and attended Buxton schools before enlisting in the US Army, where he specialized in aircraft recognition.

Tim was not encumbered by convention -- he was always his own person -- yet he willingly, and happily, used his gifts and talents to help others, from his hometown in Yarmouth to the people at Safe Passage, in Guatemala. He was a self-employed contractor who loved what he did -- so much so that there was a fine line of distinction between what was his "work" and what was his "hobby." This same notion extended to the people he worked for -- customers or friends -- as they often became one and the same.

Tim married Lisa Christiansen Corey in 2003. His loving ways and gentle spirit fueled an unshakeable devotion to Lisa and her daughters, Jennifer and Sabrina. The installation of a Danish wood stove in their home was symbolic of his pride, commitment, and care for his family -- their comfort was paramount.

Tim is survived by his wife of almost 10 years, Lisa Corey of Yarmouth; his daughter, Lisa (VanDine) Tillyer, his granddaughter, Lilly, and his son-in-law, John Tillyer, of Biddeford; his step-daughters, Jennifer and Sabrina, of Yarmouth and Sabrina's fiancé, Travis Ouellette; his brother David VanDine, of Standish; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David & Diane of Memphis; his sister-in-law, Carol, of Yarmouth; and his brother-in-law, Paul, of Yarmouth, as well as many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service and celebration of Tim's life will be held on Sunday, December 23, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 346 Main Street, Yarmouth, with a reception following in the Fellowship Hall. Burial will be at Cousins Island Cemetery in the spring of 2013. Jon and Kathi Paradise

Though he started out as "a painter," Tim quickly became like a member of our family. He was always full of conversation, whether it was talking about sports or family. For Tim, nothing was too small for him to help with. For instance, he cam to paint our basement and ended up smashing our old piano as a favor because it was too heavy to lift and too big to remove. It no longer worked so Tim took sledgehammer to the keys (and everything else) and said he would use the wood for his ocean house. It was probably more of a hassle to him but he did it because that's who he was. His talents will be missed, of course, but his great personality and humor will be missed so much more.

Our thoughts are with Tim's family at this time and to Tim, we will miss you!
