Tona Bronder Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 2, 2017.

Tona Dodd Bronder, longtime resident of the San Fernando Valley, died June 28, 2017, at the age of 90, of natural causes.
Tona was born November 30, 1926, in Fort Worth, TX, to Benjamin F Dodd and Joyce Gregory Dodd. Her birth name was Helen, but she decided she wanted a more original name, and changed her name to Tona.
As a child, she studied acting, violin, and tap dancing.
She left Texas at the age of 16, leaving for New York City to become an actress. After four years, she briefly returned to Texas , then moved to Los Angeles to further pursue a career in acting. She acted on the stage in local community theater, later taking onstage roles in Hollywood, along with some television and movie roles. She was a proud member of SAG-AFTRA.
She raised three children with Joseph Hoisington, then married an actor, William Bronder, on June 12, 1964. They were married 51 years, until his death in 2015.
Along with acting, Tona had many interests and hobbies. She traveled to Asia and India, which instilled in her an interest in Indian, Chinese and Japanese cooking. She took Japanese language classes and Bonsai classes. Her greatest interest was her pets, and over the years, she had several dogs and cats, along with a turtle and birds.
Tona is survived by her son, Gary Bergantino (Pam); daughters, Rhonda Pimentel and Crystal Govea (Ernest); stepdaughters, Colleen Bronder, Joan Kownacki (John), Jean Andrews (Mike), and Tonia Zinninger; grandchildren, Richard Hernandez (Danielle), Gary Hernandez (Danielle), Laura Bergantino, Melissa Govea Von-Velasco (Matthew), Jennifer Govea; numerous great-grandchildren; brother, James W Dodd (Virginia); sister, Carolyn Casterline; brother-in-law, Charles Sr. (Suzanne); and sister-in-law, Patricia (Frank).
She was pre-deceased in death by her husband, William F Bronder, and son-in-law, Gary Pimentel.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, July 21, at Eternal Valley Memorial Park in Newhall, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the donor's choice of charity for pets.

It's your Birthday! This time of year is difficult because Bill and Gary "Pimee" always celebrated birthdays that were in November. Thanksgiving is not the same either but you would be happy to know that Peyton is continuing your wonderful "Pea Salad" and she did a great job. It has been and will continue to be a family tradition. I went to see you, Bill and "Pimee" the other day. It's sad but I am glad you are close enough that I can visit. Also, Tiger is doing well, she is sitting on the Futon in front of the window getting some sun. Tiger does not like KC the kitten Sassy found in my backyard but hopefully he will calm down and she will adjust. I miss you and love you!

Mom, I was able to put flowers and decorate for your birthday, but so overwhelming I have not been able to sign this for a few days. I still look at the phone each day to see if you have called. A very difficult habit to give up. Rest in peace!

Mom, it seems like yesterday "Pimee" and I were visiting on Christmas Day but it's been a year and this is the first Christmas without you and "Pimee". It's so hard and I miss you both. Mimi, Sassy and Tiger all are getting spoiled so you would be happy. I miss you and love you.

Mom,
I miss being able to call you and wish you a happy birthday. There is a big, empty spot in the day, without you here; however, I have fond memories of past birthday celebrations that I will always cherish.
Love you, Mom.

Mom, it's Thanksgiving and I miss you, Bill and "Pimee" so much. The past few years it's been quiet without Bill enjoying good food and watching football. Last year "Pimee" was still here and we got to enjoy your singing and dancing though. I will always have wonderful memories though.

Love,

Rhonda

Tona,
It was always a pleasure for Crystal and me to visit you, to take you to lunch, to do some shopping, or to have your hair done. We also enjoyed just sitting and talking to you about the old days in Texas and New York, and about your acting profession. I enjoyed talking to you on the phone, and often came away with a new story from earlier days. I wish our time with you had not ended so unexpectedly. There is always so much more to say and do. May you now rest in peace with our Lord.

Tona I was happy to have gotten the opportunity to meet you. You was a beautiful woman and I can see why my dad Billy Bronder was so much in love with you and your family. Now you are both together.

Mom, I said my final goodbye to you yesterday, this time without you saying "Goodbye, Dear, I'll talk to you later today or tomorrow", but in my heart, I will never truly say goodbye, because I will think of you every day, remembering talks we've had over the years, places we've gone, things we've done. You'll be with me forever.

Mom, I don't know what to say . . . I start to call you numerous times during the day and realize you aren't there. I walk in the door to see if the red light is flashing on the answering machine and of course there is no message from you. You would be happy that Mimi, Sassy, Tiger, Arnie and the doves all have good homes. I love you and miss you but you are with Bill and Gary (Pimee) and even though my heart is broken because I miss all of you, I know you are together with them. I love you
