Valentine S. Palmer Jr., "Val," age 89, of Fall River, died Wednesday, March 30, 2011 in St. Anne's Hospital. He was the husband of the late Margaret M. (Howe) Palmer. Born in Fall River, a son of the late Valentine S. Palmer Sr. and Nellie (Goodall) Palmer, he had been a lifelong resident of the city. He attended B.M.C. Durfee High School and was a World War II Veteran of the United States Army Air Force retiring as Master Sergeant. Valentine S. Palmer Jr., "Val," age 89, of Fall River, died Wednesday, March 30, 2011 in St. Anne's Hospital. He was the husband of the late Margaret M. (Howe) Palmer.

Born in Fall River, a son of the late Valentine S. Palmer Sr. and Nellie (Goodall) Palmer, he had been a lifelong resident of the city.

He attended B.M.C. Durfee High School and was a World War II Veteran of the United States Army Air Force retiring as Master Sergeant. He worked in the maintenance department at the former Firestone Rubber and Latex Company for 30 years, then Foxboro and Frito-Lay Company, before retiring from the former Associated Webbing Company in 1982. After retirement, he worked at the C.Y.O. Hall on Anawan Street in Fall River.

Mr. Palmer was a member of the V.F.W. in Tiverton, American Legion Post 303 in Swansea, the Knights of Columbus in Tiverton, and was past president of the senior club at Sts. Peter and Paul's Parish at Holy Cross Church. He was a communicant of the former St. Williams Church and was awarded the Marion Medal by the former Bishop, now Cardinal, Sean Patrick O'Malley. He enjoyed golfing and bowling and was a café league member.

Surviving three sons, Russell S. Palmer and his wife Teresa of Dripping Springs, TX, Brian C. Palmer and his wife Carol of Tiverton, Kevin W. Palmer and his wife Bev of Fall River, one daughter Janet G. Allard and her husband Roger of Fall River, one sister Muriel Landry and her husband Jack of Abilene, TX, eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, including his loving niece Lynne Aldrich and her husband Arthur of Fall River. He was brother of the late William and James Palmer.

His Funeral will be held Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 9:00AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at CHERRY PLACE 178 Winter St. Fall River, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM in Holy Name Church 709 Hanover Street Fall River. Visiting hours Monday from 4:00 to 8:00PM. Burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery at Bourne at 12:45PM. The family will provide transportation to and from the cemetery for those wishing to attend the burial.
