Valerie Ephlin Washburn, 58, of Bartlett, Tennessee passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 26, 2016. She was born to Bobby and Lorene Ephlin of Wardell, Missouri on July 30, 1958. She was the loving wife of William Washburn, Sr. for thirty-one years and devoted mother of Wakefield and William Washburn, Jr. Valerie was previously deceased by her parents, her brother, James Ephlin, and her sister, Sharon Berry. She is survived by her husband, children, her siblings, Bobbie Harris, Pat Lawler, and Tim Ephlin, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Valerie was an avid Cardinals fan who enjoyed charity projects, bowling, cross-stitching, and serving as a judge at barbeque competitions. Many of her children's friends considered her a second mother, as she was known for never meeting a stranger. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 29 from six until eight o'clock at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N Germantown Road, Bartlett, Tennessee. A graveside service will be held Friday, December 30 at eleven o'clock at the same location. Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Valerie, Valerie, Valerie.......I called your name so many times and you were always there by my side to fix something I had broke or help me make a decision that I could not make on my own. There is not enough words to tell you what those many years meant to me. I love you dear friend.
Bill, Ty & BJ ......you all were her life, her love.
May God be with you during this time.
The Broke Chain
We little knew that morning that God was going
to call your name.
In life we loved you death
In death we do the same
It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go
alone; for part of us went with you, the day
God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories, your love is still
our guide, and though we cannot see you,
you are always at out side.
Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems
the same, but as God calls us one by one
the chain will link again.

Hi, My name is Toni Wade. I was Valerie's last ire in the Coding Department at The West Clinic. I didn't know Valerie very long but I felt like I had. We had the best time. We talked for over an hour about everything under the sun. In that short period of time we truly connected; so I was very sad when she announced that she was leaving shortly after I arrived. With that said, I cannot even begin to fathom how you all are feeling. When Valerie announced she was leaving, she invited us to keep up with her on Facebook, and I did just that.. I saw just how loved she was by so many. I saw how crazy she was about her husband and her children, her Sister and community. I know that you all will miss her terribly and my heart goes out to you. You will all be in my prayers and I leave you with this poem:
After They Are Gone
When someone we love passes away,
We ache but we go on,
Our dear departed would want us to heal
After they are gone
This sorrowful time must still feel so unreal
And you're looking for strength from above
I know how sad you must be to lose the one you love
I hope, from my heart, that your pain will decrease
That your spirit will gain strength again,
I pray that your faith will create inner peace
And that God will send blessings - Amen
My Deepest Condolences,
Toni V. Wade

In loving memory of a wonderful person. I would not be where I am today with my career had I not met Valerie. She was like a second Mom to me, and I valued her life as much as my own. I will always love and remember her beautiful soul. Prayers for her husband a 2 sons whom she spoke very highly of! I will definitely miss her, very much.
