COLUMBIA - A graveside service for Van Dorn Lott, Jr., 89, will be held at 3:00 Monday, September 26, 2016, at Greenlawn Memorial Park with the Reverend Dr. Daniel H. Hank, PhD officiating the service. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 25, 2016, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
Mr. Lott died Tuesday, September 20, 2016. Born on February 15, 1927 in Columbia, he was a son of the late Van Dorn Lott, Sr. and Hattie Fogler Lott.
Van started college at The Citadel in 1944, but left to enlist in the US Navy. He graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1951. He was the co-owner of Van Lott Inc. Van was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church, the Palmetto Club, the Forest Lake Club, and Bonny Hall Hunting and Fishing Club in Yamessee, SC.
Surviving are his son, Van Dorn Lott, III (Anne) of Columbia; daughters, Laurie Lott Allen (Bill) of Columbia, Nancy Ellison Lott (Fiancé Caldwell Culler) of Columbia, and Caroline Lott Jenkins (Charles) of Mount Pleasant; grandchildren, Van Dorn Lott IV, William Bowen Allen, Jr., Douglas Lott Allen, John Clarkson Lott, Nancy Elizabeth Jenkins, Charles Robert Jenkins, Jr.; and nieces and nephew, Dorn Ellison Scherer, Martha Lott Cathou, and A.G. “Gill” Ellison, III.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Nancy Baggott Lott; his second wife, Maryanne Kannaday Lott; sister, Sederis Lott Ellison; brother, Douglas Wylie Lott; and nephew, Douglas Wylie Lott, Jr.
The family wishes to thank Becky Anderson, Annie Cunningham, Kyia Gilyard, Brandon Jones, Betty Ruff, Shirley Weston, and Kay Woods for providing extraordinary, continuous devoted care during Mr. Lott’s extended illness.
