DELCAMBRE – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mrs. Velta Sonnier Delcambre, age 86, on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. Fr. Herb Bennerfield will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in Migues Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home of Delcambre on Tuesday from 10:00 am until 10:00 pm, with the Rosary at 7:00 pm. A native of Erath and resident of Delcambre, Mrs. Delcambre passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 14, 2012 with her family at her side.
Mrs. Delcambre was a homemaker, but worked as a nurse many years ago at the Palms Hospital in Abbeville. She enjoyed reading, playing Bingo and Pokeno, trips to the casino with family and friends, and traveling, especially Cypremort Point. She will be missed dearly.
Survivors include her children, Suzanne Peltier of Abbeville, Bonnie Miller of Erath, Darryl Delcambre and wife Cheryl of Arkansas, Gerryl Delcambre and wife Mary of Delcambre, Randall Delcambre and wife Tina of Delcambre, Janice Broussard and Angela Fields and husband Leon all of Erath; 26 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; two sisters, Gayle Landry of Delcambre and Janice Farvelle of Branson, MO; and her beloved cockatiel, Nicky.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edus Delcambre; a son, Anthony Richard, Jr.; her parents, Adam and Angela Broussard Sonnier; and a brother and sister, James Sonnier and Elise Jane Breaux.
Pallbearers will be Chris Broussard, Leon Fields, III, Scott Roberts, Clint Menard, Archie Lowery and Charlie Lowery. Honorary pallbearers will be Brock and Brant Anselmi, Gabriel Menard, Randall Delcambre, Jr., Hank Mergist, Jered Broussard, Scott Roberts, Jr. and Jordan Trahan.
