Vera Viola Hesslink, 84, of Greeley, passed away surrounded by her family, Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Hospice of Northern Colorado. Vera was born on August 12, 1929 in Ordway, Colorado to Steven Bliss and Mary Viola (Noel) Bigelow. Vera was raised and educated in Ordway, where she graduated from high school. After graduation she worked on the family farm until her marriage. On February 14, 1947 she married Edward Ames Hesslink in Raton, New Mexico. He died on January 5, 1987. Vera was a wonderful Christian woman who lived her faith daily. She enjoyed the bowling leagues she and her husband belonged to. She also enjoyed tooling...
Vera Viola Hesslink, 84, of Greeley, passed away surrounded by her family, Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Hospice of Northern Colorado. Vera was born on August 12, 1929 in Ordway, Colorado to Steven Bliss and Mary Viola (Noel) Bigelow.

Vera was raised and educated in Ordway, where she graduated from high school. After graduation she worked on the family farm until her marriage. On February 14, 1947 she married Edward Ames Hesslink in Raton, New Mexico. He died on January 5, 1987.

Vera was a wonderful Christian woman who lived her faith daily. She enjoyed the bowling leagues she and her husband belonged to. She also enjoyed tooling leather and oil painting. She raised roses and enjoyed gardening. Vera liked to bake pies, dough bellies, pancakes and chicken and noodles. She loved her time with her family and loved each a tremendous amount.

After marriage they moved to Hartman (in southeast Colorado) where they operated a farm and raised sheep. They worked on a dairy in Fort Lupton later. The family all worked for Lowell-Paul Dairy in Greeley. Her husband managed the Weld County Airport for several years.

Vera was a homemaker most of her life. She then managed the Tandy Leather Store in Greeley for a number of years, after which she retired. She was an avid Colorado Rockies fan.

Vera is survived by her three daughters, Edith "Susan" Ziems (David) of Loveland, Naomi "Marie" Hesslink of Greeley and Penny Firestien (Wade) of Ault; two sons, Vern Hesslink (JoAnn) of Moses Lake, Washington and Steve "Sam" Hesslink (Donna) of Greeley; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Chad Hesslink and Rodney Cronin, a sister, Marie Harman and two brothers, Ernest and Melvin Bigelow.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2014 followed by the Celebration of Life at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday both at Stoddard Funeral Home. Inurnment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
