Vern L. Floyd, 89, of San Angelo went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 in San Angelo. The visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M., Sunday, February 17, 2013 at Johnson's Funeral Home. The Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, February 18, 2013 at Glen Meadows Baptist Church with Rev. Lee Floyd and Rev. Lynn Floyd officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Vern was born February 15, 1923 in Payne County, Oklahoma to John W. and Jane Reed Floyd. Vern L. Floyd, 89, of San Angelo went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 in San Angelo. The visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M., Sunday, February 17, 2013 at Johnson's Funeral Home. The Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, February 18, 2013 at Glen Meadows Baptist Church with Rev. Lee Floyd and Rev. Lynn Floyd officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Vern was born February 15, 1923 in Payne County, Oklahoma to John W. and Jane Reed Floyd. He served his country honorably in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII and was very proud to have served in uniform. One of his favorite sayings was "War is hell, but I would do it all over again for my country!" Vern met and later married Deloris Maxine Cannon on January 9, 1945 and they shared 68 beautiful years together. He worked in the petroleum industry all of his life retiring as a production foreman for Exxon Mobil, starting his own production consulting firm he ran well into his 80s. Vern was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who devoted his life to his family. He especially adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Vern loved spending time with them and was very supported of each one and all their endeavors. He took great pride and made great effort to know what those endeavors were and to remember everyone's birthday. There was never a more devoted father and grandfather and we will dearly miss him. Vern was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Marvin Lee Floyd and 10 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Deloris Floyd, of San Angelo; his sons, Dana Floyd and Harrell Floyd, both of San Angelo; his Grandchildren, Jeffery Floyd and his wife Ashley, of Sugarland, TX, Heather Evans and her husband Patrick, of Katy, TX., Lee Floyd and his wife Rhonda, of San Angelo, Lesly Floyd and his wife Brandi, of San Angelo and Lynn Floyd and his wife Amanda, of Orange Grove, TX; his Great Grandchildren, Holden Evans, Isabelle Evans, Micah Floyd, Megan Floyd, Chase Floyd, Brady Floyd, Riley Floyd, Shyanne Floyd, Reagan Floyd, Sydney Floyd, Maddox Floyd, Brooklynn Floyd and one on the way, Piper Floyd; numerous nieces and nephews and a very special friend Robert Sandoval. The Pallbearers for the service will be Lesly Floyd, Lee Floyd, Lynn Floyd, Patrick Evans, Chase Floyd and Jeffery Floyd. Honorary pallbearer for the service will be Frank Pool. The family wishes to extend a very special thanks to Baptist Hospice and all of Vern's "Special Angels" for all of the loving and devoted care and attention given to Vern and to Chaplin Kevin McSpadden for his many visits.
