Verna Marie Shattuck was born in Oklahoma on October 12, 1930, and she passed away peacefully on January 7, 2013. She married the love of her life, Thomas Lloyd Shattuck on December 5, 1946, and they were married for over 60 years. They raised their two children, Connie and Carolyn, in several Texas towns, eventually settling in Kermit, TX where Marie worked at the school and made lifelong friendships; they were members of Grace Temple Baptist Church. After their children were grown, Lloyd and Marie moved to Sterling City where they became very active in the community.
Marie loved serving the Lord through children's ministries. She taught Sunday School and Mission Friends for many, many years and continued to serve in various capacities as long as she possibly could. The children she taught were "her kids," and she treasured each and every one of them. She loved receiving updates through the years and continued to follow and pray for them all. As well, Marie was an active member of First Baptist Church in Sterling City, as well as the Senior Citizens group, and she treasured all of the friendships she developed through the years.
She loved poetry, the nursing home ministry, and, most of all, her family, and she was adamant that everyone she met knew the importance of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband and beloved daughter, Carolyn, as well as her parents, siblings, and best friend, Ruby. She is survived by her children Connie and husband, Tommy; her sisters-in-law Nancy Shattuck and Margie Bolton; her grandchildren: Lisa and Brian Murphree, Ray and Julie Browning, Melissa Mauzey and her fiancée Traven Berrie and Michael Mauzey, Tracie Dulin, Robin and Billy Massie, Carol and Lonnie Prince, and Tommy and Memory Dulin. Her great-grandchildren: Taylor and Jonathan Murphree, Brianna and Tyler Frick; Morgan, Nathan, Joshua, and Nicholas Browning; Maeghan, Mikayla, and Marilee Mauzey; Autumn, Karmandy, and Kennedy Dulin; Kaede and Jocelyn Massie; Elizabeth and Samantha Prince; Tommy and Brooklyn Dulin; and her great-great grandchildren: Gavin Frick and Zoe Dulin; and many nieces, nephews, very dear friends, and her constant cat companions, Fuzz, Trouble, and Harrieta.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, January 10th in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the First Baptist Church children's ministry or the children's charity of your choice. Family and friends may sign an online guestbook at johnsons-funeralhome.com
