Verner C. Ahles, formerly of the Bronx and Syosset, NY died peacefully on July 29, 2012 in the Montrose Veterans Home at the age of 90. Verner was born in the Bronx to Verner C. Ahles, Sr., and Barbara (Wolpers) on October 9, 1921. He was a graduate of Evander Childs H.S. Verner served in the Sea Bees and Merchant Marines during World War II. He was a career New York Telephone employee. Verner was a life-long Giants (baseball) fan. He enjoyed reading, music and history. He was predeceased by his wife, Irma (Riechers) of 37 years. Verner C. Ahles, formerly of the Bronx and Syosset, NY died peacefully on July 29, 2012 in the Montrose Veterans Home at the age of 90.

Verner was born in the Bronx to Verner C. Ahles, Sr., and Barbara (Wolpers) on October 9, 1921. He was a graduate of Evander Childs H.S. Verner served in the Sea Bees and Merchant Marines during World War II. He was a career New York Telephone employee. Verner was a life-long Giants (baseball) fan. He enjoyed reading, music and history.

He was predeceased by his wife, Irma (Riechers) of 37 years. Verner is survived by his sister Edith Fichtelmann and brother-in law Ed, by his daughter Susan Ahles and her husband Angelo Liberati, by his son Kenneth Ahles and his wife Donna, by his daughter Elizabeth Ficocelli and her husband Mark, by his daughter Deanna Lauer and her husband Walter, by his daughter Katherine Ahles and son-in-law to be Scott Holland. He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren, Kenny Ahles, Jr., Michael Ficocelli, Nicholas Ficocelli, Walter Lauer III, Katie Lauer, Daniel Ficocelli, Matthew Ficocelli, and Matthew Lauer. Verner was loved by many and will be missed by all that knew him.

Family will receive friends at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, 321 S. Main St., New City, NY 10956 on Friday, August 3rd at 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm, and on Saturday, August 4th at 10:00 am with a service beginning at 11:00 am. Due to road construction, additional parking is also available at the church and bank across the street.

The entire Ahles family would like to extend sincere thanks to the NY State Veterans Home at Montrose for their loving care for Verner.
