On Monday, my #1 fan left this world exactly how she would have wanted, unexpected and independent. Mom was so ready to see my dad and I'm sure after telling him how mad she was at him for leaving her 26 years ago, she ran into his arms.
Once you met Vi it was hard to forget her sense of humor, her undeniable spirit, and that New Jersey charm. She was the one that kept the party going with her chatter (named class chatterbox in highschool), and antics, and everyone loved her. She was always there for me and Joey (Jan), and her beloved grandchildren, Spencer, Mikaela, Joseph, and Tracy and extended family, especially Anita. It is difficult to imagine starting every day without a phone call to her.
My mom was born in Brooklyn, NY and mostly grew up in Paterson, NJ, until moving with my dad to FairLawn and then Toms River. She called people Honey because she was bad with names, and ended everything with an a, eg cuppacina. Yet she could whip through the NY Times crossword puzzle and was mean competition in games. She was so smart and loved to tell us how much common sense she had, haha. She loved to dance and wished she could sing, which is probably why Glenn Campbell died the same day since in heaven he can join her in song.
Mom, I love you so much and I promise I will be a good girl. Godspeed, until we meet again.
