Obituary

Newton- Family, friends, faith and bridge were the cornerstones of Vi Meadows' life. At ninety-four years of age, she was long an inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know her. She died at home on Tuesday evening, December 17, 2013 surrounded by those closest to her: daughters Janet Mina of Andover Township and Barbara Haase of Glen Ridge, New Jersey; sons-in-law Art Mina and Marty Haase. Born on July 4, 1919, in Rockford, Illinois, Vi attended Rockford Business College and was certified as a Medical Librarian by Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Newton- Family, friends, faith and bridge were the cornerstones of Vi Meadows' life. At ninety-four years of age, she was long an inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know her. She died at home on Tuesday evening, December 17, 2013 surrounded by those closest to her: daughters Janet Mina of Andover Township and Barbara Haase of Glen Ridge, New Jersey; sons-in-law Art Mina and Marty Haase. Born on July 4, 1919, in Rockford, Illinois, Vi attended Rockford Business College and was certified as a Medical Librarian by Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Her many civic and community endeavors were recognized when Meadows Park, in Rockford, was dedicated in her honor. She relocated to Sparta in 1985 with her husband John Meadows, who pre-deceased her in 1995, and resided on Lake Mohawk with Art, Janet and Michael for twenty years before relocating with them to Andover Township in 2005. Among her many memorable attributes were her legendary skills as a masters-level bridge player, her love of studying maps, and her passion for spirited debate on a variety of subjects. In addition to those mentioned above, surviving family members include grandson Michael Mina of Lexington, Kentucky; grandson Brett Holleman & wife, Blair Lawson, of Los Angeles, CA, & great-grandchildren Ryker, Leland & Angie; & grandson Blake Haase & wife Nina, of Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY, & great-grandchildren, Jasper, Cleo & Jed; as well as beloved extended family members in Illinois and California. Friends and family are invited 5-7 pm Friday evening to Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main Street, Sparta. A private family interment will follow Saturday. Her family asks that you please keep Vi in your thoughts and prayers as we enter this holiday season. Donations may be made to the Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice Memorial Foundation 99 Sparta Avenue, Newton, NJ 07860 in Vi's name would also be welcomed.
