Command Sergeant Major Victor Manuel Miranda-Torres, (U.S. Army retired), 83, of Harker Heights, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends on Saturday, August 23rd, 2014 after a lengthy illness with Alzheimer's. Victor, also known as "Abuelo" to many, was born August 4th, 1931 in Juncos, Puerto Rico. After finishing high school, he joined the U.S. Army, serving his country with distinction for over 30 years. Command Sergeant Major Victor Manuel Miranda-Torres, (U.S. Army retired), 83, of Harker Heights, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends on Saturday, August 23rd, 2014 after a lengthy illness with Alzheimer's.

Victor, also known as "Abuelo" to many, was born August 4th, 1931 in Juncos, Puerto Rico. After finishing high school, he joined the U.S. Army, serving his country with distinction for over 30 years. Achieving the rank of Command Sergeant Major, Victor was stationed throughout the United States and overseas during his career. His military decorations and awards include: Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (with 3 OLC), Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (w/2 Bronze Service Stars), Army of Occupation Medal (Germany), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), Army Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal (w/Silver, 4 Loops), and the National Defense Service Medal.

After retiring from the U.S. Army, he returned to school earning both is his Bachelor and Masters degrees. He continued serving his country as a Counseling Psychologist at Ft. Hood.

Victor is survived by his wife of 57 years and the love of his life, Nancy, of Harker Heights, Texas, three children, Victor Miranda and his wife Nieda, Zully Colón and her husband Carlos, Victor Miranda and his wife Liz. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Victor (Junito) and his wife Lyanne, Erica, Juan Carlos and his wife Jessica, Riley and his wife Brooke, Kevin and his wife Lena, Miles, Danielle, Graciela, Ricardo; seven great-grandchildren, Marisol, Alex, Elizabeth, Jeremy, Paula, Harlow, Hudson and countless friends and family.

The viewing and rosary will be at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Killeen, 1615 South Fort Hood Road (Hwy 195) on Thursday, August 28th from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

A celebration of life service will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2903 Rancier Ave., Killeen, on Friday, August 29th at 12:30 PM. His son, son-in-law, and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Immediately following the church service, burial with full military honors will be at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery located on Hwy 195 in Killeen.
