Vincent Smith Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 5, 2017.

Vincent Smith, fondly known has “Vinny or Vin”, the younger of two children born to the late Iris Moore-Donaldson and Reuben Smith, was born on July 22, 1941 in Stanton, Portland, Jamaica, West Indies. On May 3, 2017, knowing that his work down here was finished, God called him home to take his rest.

Vincent grew up in Saint Thomas, Jamaica and worked as a fisherman. He migrated to the United States in 1969 and lived in Brooklyn, New York, while in Brooklyn he worked for the U-Haul Company for many years. He moved to Queens, New York in 1980, where he gained employment with the school system, in the maintenance department. Vin was very handy and did odd jobs to take care of his family. He was hard working, and he loved to entertain and travel. He retired in 1980 and decided to move out of New York to get away from the snow, traffic and the hustle and bustle.

Vincent moved to Port Saint Lucie, Florida in 2004, shortly after his retirement. And, lived there until his death. You can always find him in the garage staring out to the skies and just enjoying retirement life. Vincent joined First Baptist Port Saint Lucie in 2004. He was a faithful steward, serving in many capacities including Usher.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted wife, Genelva Smith, 4 sons Errol and Elton Smith from New York, Michael Layne and Calvin Brown from Maryland, one sister who preceded him in death, Eugenia Gardener, one cousin Dorothy Johnson from Port Saint Lucie, 9 grandchildren, 7 brothers-in law, 2 sisters-in law, 3 daughters-in law and host of other family members

A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 17th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Aycock Funeral Home - Byrd, Young & Prill Chapel, 1170 SW Bayshore Blvd, Port St Lucie, FL 34983.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 18th, 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church Port St Lucie, 115 NE Solida Dr, Port St Lucie, FL 34983. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 6026 North US Highway 1, Fort Pierce, FL 34946.
