Here it is, July 13, 2013. I was googling folks from my past and typed in "Vincent Marchionda". How sad I am to see that Mr. Marchionda is gone. He was such an inspiration to me and I have many fond memories of band class at PJH and of music lessons at his home. My teenage years were not easy, and he always gave me hope and taught me that there was so much joy to be had in this life. As it turned out, he was right! My life has been amazing and filled with love. Mr. Marchionda's kindness will never be forgotten, and his love of music is forever etched in my soul. I wish I had done this search at least a year earlier.

Move love to the Marchionda family,

Anne Foss Hawman

Chris, Cindy, "Mom",
Your Dad was such a great joy to be around. Your family is always so warm and caring and treated everyone like family. He was a such a comic and good natured man. Even my boys remember him as the "funny guy" at the birthday parties. He will be missed and remembered fondly. All our love to you and your family.

The fondest, funniest, early childhood memories my brother Bob and I have are of Uncle Vince. He patiently allowed us to explore his music room and to try playing his many musical instruments when we were just toddlers. He kept us and our cousins laughing with endless jokes and pranks when we were very young. Uncle Vince continued to entertain us as we grew older with spot-on imitations of people, corny puns, wry comments spoken in a variety of accents, and of course, his expert saxophone playing. His kindness, caring, and incredible sense of humor are what we remember most about our Uncle. Aunt Jean, Chris, and Cindy, your husband and father was well loved, and will be remembered by us forever.

There are no words to express my heartfelt sympathy for your loss. You were a devoted wife and friend to Vince. You have a great support system in your daughters and family and they will help you get through this. I miss seeing everyone and the interaction of evening meals. Your life will change but you carry beautiful memory s and they will never change only grow more precious. Jeanne (the other Jean)

To the wonderful family of Vince Marchionda, he was one of my favorite teachers at Palmetto. As a 7th grader in Beginning Band I was one of thousands of kids in his classes who entered not knowing how to play an instrument; yet by the end of the school year we had formed into a pretty decent band, all due to him. He inspired me with music which led me to a musical life. Through Concert, Jazz and Stage band it was because of Mr. Marchionda, through his belief in my abilities, that turned me into a pretty decent trumpet player. He was funny, patient, warm and caring. I knew he cared about us. Looking back, it's really amazing, he played every instrument and all at a high level. His in class tantrums were legendary and when he'd yell "assignment!", you knew he'd had enough. His greatest ability however, was the ability to laugh at himself, and have a good time, all of the time. He called on me once, the memory of which will stay with me forever, and he asked that I imitate him in front of the class - and I did, and I did him well, and he laughed out loud. What a great guy. How lucky I am to have had him play a part in my life. Mr. Marchionda, you did well, you'll be missed greatly, and you'll be loved always. Thank you.

Dearest Jean: So many wonderful tributes to Vincent. Wish I could have known all of you earlier and heard the beautiful music he must have played. We shared many days at Brighton Gardens and these will forever be a cherished memory. Even though we are expecting it, when we loose a dear loved one it is difficult to endure. Time will ease the ache in your heart but never dull the memories and love you had for Vince. God Bless you and your family! You were a shinning example of love and devotion. It was truly a joy to have the privilege to have witnessed this devotion. My sincere condolences on your loss.

Vincent, when I think of you I see the biggest, brightest smile and hear the smooth runs of your beloved sax. I remember your jokes and instructions on how to ride the subway with proper 'sea legs'. Your Cindy will always have an ear when she wants to talk about her amazing Dad. A beautiful star joins the sky. With love and respect, Lauren

Dear Jean, Cindy and Chris,
I was very sadden by the passing of Vince. Vince was a well repected teacher and talented musician. Not only does the memory of his music carry on but the two wonderful daughters he raised are a tribute to Vince and Jean. I know the fond memories you all have of Vince will help you through this difficult time. I pray that our Blessed Lady will comfort you with strength, love and peace knowing there is no more discomfort and Vince is looking upon his family with pride, knowing his mission on earth was a success.

How sad to hear about Vince's passing. Vince has been a close friend of mine for many years, in Miami and after we both retired.
I'll cherish his memory. Judy and I enjoyed visiting you both soon after we moved to Ormond Beach.
I often tried to have him come over and play in my Big Band concerts in our area but, as usual,Vince was in demand in the Brandon area gigging once again. This was no great surprise to me, since he has always been the consummate musician. He was always a pleasure to have on the band stand. Always fun to work with. A genuine professional; kind and pleasant human being.
I will miss my old friend, greatly.
Please be brave while mourning your loss.
Time may not heal everything, but it may help assuage the pain to some degree.
All our love,

Dear Mrs. Marchionda, Chris, and Cindy, I just wanted to let you know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your families at such a difficult time. Even after nearly 30 years since high school, I still often think about my days at Southwood and Palmetto spent with Chris and Cindy. I have nothing but wonderful, cherished memories of the entire Marchionda family. I always remember Mr. Marchionda's sense of humor and how he created such a love and appreciation for music in everyone that he knew. As you mourn your loss, I hope you can find condolence in your memories and are able to celebrate the life of this wonderful man. Take care.

Vince - Mr. Marchionda to me - was my band instructor at Palmetto Junior High. He was also one of my all-time favorite teachers and someone that quietly made a giant impact on me with his enthusiasm and warmth at an important life juncture. I was a bit intimidated coming to middle school and, beginning with a summer music program, Vince made me feel welcome and happy to go to school every day. The band room was home base. During school breaks, Vince would let me bring home and try out the not so popular instruments like the bassoon, bass clarinet and baritone sax. While I didn't grow up to be a musician, Vince certainly fostered my love of music. Most important though was the nurturing role he played in my education. Mr. Marchionda, you'll always be in my memories. I wish your family much comfort at this difficult time.

Mr. Marchionda was my favorite teacher period. The 3 years I spent at Palmetto Jr.high as a band student and private saxophone student with him were amazing. He was a mentor, teacher and friend to me always. His passion for music and teaching was never equaled in all my years studying music after I studied with him. I was spoiled young because I never could find another teacher that came close to the influence he had on me in those important early teen years. I would go back and visit him when I was in high school because I was so miserable in the high school band. Mr. Marchionda always treated me with respect and we had a bond that I will always cherish. My heart and love goes out to Mrs. Marchionda who was always so nice to me and to Christine and Cindy, your dad meant the world to me. I am so sad today hearing of his passing, but I smile because I was so lucky to have known him.

Vincent Marchionda taught me choral music when I was in junior high school. He was a wonderful mentor and became a friend in those three years. He taught me things about music in my formative years that stayed with me through college and as an adult. He was an inspiration. He was so proud of his family and talked about you all often. It's funny that, at age 60 I would remember so many things about one person from so many years ago, but that just goes to show what an influence he had in my life. Thanks to Cindy and Mrs. Marchionda for allowing me to talk to him recently. I am so sorry for the loss of a lovely and talented person.

Vince thank you for the most precious gift that I have ever been given: your daughter, Cindy. She adored you and I loved hearing the stories about you when she was growing up. I marveled at her tenacity in supporting you through your illness. The gift of music that you inspired in her blesses our home everyday. Early on, I was able to witness the witty, funny, playful, talented man before the disease stole you from us all. You have raised an incredible family, blessed many with your individual talent and generously shared that talent in your teachings. You will be missed but will live on through all the lives that you have so generously touched...You can finally rest in peace.
