Viola Hollansworth Obituary

Viola Chaya Hollandsworth (Vi) formerly of Winter Park, FL. passed away March 13, 2015 at the age of 87 surrounded by her family at home in Park City, Utah. She was born April 7, 1927 in McAdoo, Pennsylvania and spent her early years in McAdoo and Hazelton. She graduated from St. Mary’s Hospital, School of Nursing in Hoboken, New Jersey in 1948 and went on to be commissioned as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps. She served as a Korean War nurse in California taking care of and comforting wounded soldiers. Other highlights of her 40-year career of service include working as a Civil Service nurse at the former U.S. Air Force Base Hospital in Orlando, FL. on the Medical, Surgical, and ICU wards and as Charge Nurse of the Outpatient Clinic. She also worked at the U.S. Army Base Hospital in Landstuhl, Germany on the Pulmonary, TB and General Medical wards. Until retirement she worked for Internal Medicine physicians in the Orlando area. Vi was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crafting, flower arranging as well oil painting. She leaves behind many wonderful memories and will be missed.



Vi was preceded in death by her parents Julia (Macowiec) and John J. Chaya, Sr. and brother John J. Chaya, Jr. of Berwick, Pa. She is survived by daughter Diane (Hollandsworth) Might and husband Tom of Scottsdale, AZ. and son John Hollandsworth of Orlando, FL. She is also survived by three grandsons Dr. Matthew Might and wife Cristina (Casanova) of Salt Lake City, UT; Lt. Daniel Might and John Might of Park City, UT; as well three great-grandchildren Bertrand, Victoria and Winston Might of Salt Lake City.



Vi is also survived by her brother Joseph Chaya and his wife Irene of Ashland, PA. and sister Joan (Chaya) Oldham and her husband Doyle of Altamonte Springs, FL. as well as many nieces and nephews of whom she was proud.



The family will receive friends at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home at 7520 Aloma Avenue, Winter Park on Sunday March 22, 2015 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Burial will take place after at Glen Haven Cemetery, Temple Drive, Winter Park. In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor may be sent to the NGLY1 Foundation at 175 W. 200 S., Suite 100, Salt Lake City, UT 84101. This foundation seeks treatment through research, awareness and support for her beloved great-grandchild Bertrand and others who suffer from this crippling rare disease.
