Virginia Dare Gamble Bailey, 77, of Statesville, went home to be with the Lord, November 29, 2016 at Maple Leaf Healthcare.
Born in Iredell County on June 29, 1939, she was the daughter of the late John Ivey Gamble, Sr. and Clara Jane Ramsey Gamble.
Mrs. Bailey was a graduate of Unity High School where she was awarded for her participation in the Dramatics Club and received her Nursing Certification from the University of Georgia. She was a member of Mount Vernon AME Zion Church and was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Virginia enjoyed traveling around the world and loved her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Bailey; her son, Corry Lee Bailey; three brothers, John I. Gamble, Milas Gamble and Rev. Kay Gamble; one sister, Robena Rucker and one great-grandson, YaoYao Bailey.
Those left to cherish her memory are daughter-in-law, Toni Smyre Bailey; brother, Rev. Luther (Linda) Gamble; sister, Rachel I. Gamble; sister-in-laws, Betty Gamble, Agnes Gamble, Marva Bailey, and Catherine (Eric) Patterson; brother-in-law Joe R. Rucker: three grandchildren, Corry Lee Bailey, Sierra Bailey and Thyran Bailey; seven great-grandchildren, Corry Lee Bailey, Jr., Comari Bailey, Cayden Bailey, Caleb Bailey, Ceyenne Bailey, Kaliyah Bailey and Corean Bailey.
She is further survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends Sunday, December 4, 2016 from 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
The service celebrating Virginia's life will begin at 2:30 PM in the Westmoreland Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Luther Pressley Gamble officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Vernon AME Zion Church Cemetery.
Memorial donations are asked to be made to the American Cancer Society c/o 1901 Brunswick Ave. Suite 100 Charlotte, NC 28207.
The family will be assembled from Friday – Sunday at 617 N. Kelly Street Statesville, NC 28677.
