Virginia Phelps Rood Bell, 84, of 98 Andra Drive, Ridgeway, died Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at Morehead Memorial Hospital of

Eden, NC. She was born in Portsmouth, on February 19, 1927 to the late Doctrine " D.C." C. Phelps and Virginia Williams

Harris Lanier. She served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. She was a graduate from Martinsville High

School and received her Nursing certification as an LPN from Lewis Gale Hospital. She had worked as a nurse for the

Martinsville General Hospital and retired from Roy Stone Transfer after several years as a Rate Clerk. She was a member of

Fontaine Baptist Church and was the Past President of the Fontaine Ruritan Women's Club.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter A. Bell

Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Ann Bell of Arvada Colorado and Annette "Anne" R. Williams of Ridgeway, one son,

Harold Walter Bell of Ridgeway and one half brother, Donald B. Phelps of Vanceboro, NC, seven grandchildren and twelve

great grandchildren and nieces and nephews

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday June 16, 2011 in the chapel of Community Funeral Service of Ridgeway with

Director Kelly Ratcliff officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery of Ridgeway. The family will receive friends

7-8 p.m. Wednesday June 15, 2011 in the chapel of Community Funeral Service and other times at the home on Andra Drive.
