Virginia Cone Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 4, 2013.

Nonie Cone went to be with her precious Lord on December 3, 2013, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Tacoma, WA on August 1, 1928. She was raised by her loving grandparents after being abandoned as an infant by her parents. She loved her grandparents dearly and never felt bitter by her start to life. Nonie is preceded in death by her beautiful daughter, Teresa Maureen Cone in 1955, and husband Alonzo Clyde Cone in 2011. With great anticipation she has now joined them in heaven.

Clyde and Nonie met at the USO in San Diego, California and were married two weeks later on January 19, 1946 in Santa Ana, CA. They were married for 65 years. From their marriage came 5 children; Chris Crainer, (Everett) of Churchill, TX, Teresa deceased at 7 years of age in 1955, Steve Cone (Stephanie) of Richwood, TX, John Cone (Robin) of Lake Jackson, TX, Matt Cone (Melissa) of Churchill, TX. Clyde and Nonie's family continues to grow with grandchildren; Theresa and Tracy Brooks, Eric and Jennifer Crainer, Andrew and Gabriella Cone, Michael Cone, Brandon Cone, Elizabeth and Chad Tipps and Lauren and Ryan Crew. Great grandchildren; Taylor Nonie Brooks, Austin Crainer, Blair Cone, Leah Cone. Cort Tipps, and Jackson Crew.

Nonie was the glue of the Cone family. She was a loving sister, mother, wife, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She started one of the first nursery schools in Lake Jackson. Helped begin the first Brownie Troop in Lake Jackson. Nonie was a businesswoman, philanthropist, and artist. As a breast cancer survivor she volunteered with Outreach and counseled many women. Nonie was an active member of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church. Nonie's life motto is JOY (Jesus, Others, You).

Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, December 6, 2013 followed by funeral services at 2 p.m. Services will be held at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Lake Jackson with Andrew and Elizabeth Parker officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a charitable donation to St. Timothy's Episcopal Church or the SPCA in Lake Jackson, TX.

Aunt Nonie will be missed and one less Angel on Earth. She will always be Aunt Nonie to me and made me feel like I was one of the boys. When Matt and I would get in Hot water she scolded both of us...just like Brothers. Swiftly, I might add but we had it come'n. She always greeted me with that Beautiful smile and a big hug! The Cones have always been a fixture in my life and a big part of me.
I Love her and I will miss her. She is with Uncle Clyde now...Praise the Lord!

From the first time I met "Nonie", she was an inspiration. Elegant, beautiful, funny and so accepting. "Nonie" was the glue that held the family together, and I have always marveled in her ability to get thru tough times and laugh when I know she wanted to cry. An amazing woman that I feel honored to have known and to have her love me. I will miss you, "Nonie". My heart is heavy and I pray for healing for Chris, Steve, John and Matt, along with many other family members who are struggling with the loss. I love you all.

Lake Jackson will always be home to me but it will never be the same without visiting all of "our" parents close family friends. From the early days of Lake Jackson and being part of our parents new life after WWII, we ALL grew up together in a great era . We were all born in the late 40's and early 50's.We are lived close by and we all did almost everything together. We were all so lucky to have the parents we had. So many stories could be shared by all. We all have many fond memories of the truly early days in Lake Jackson where all of our parents . As children became adults , we ALL considered ourselves as part of one big family. Our prayers and thoughts are with each of you today but one thing I know for sure, Blanche and Nonie and M.D. and Clyde are already working on some big get together. And It will be bigger than BIG. With all our love , the MD Galloway family, Candy and John, G.G. and Cindy, and Gay Lynn and Paul, and all of our children. Our prayers and thoughts are with each of you.
