Obituary

Vivian Jeanette Worden passed away peacefully at the West Oak Rehabilitation Center in Austin, Texas on Tuesday, February 14, 2012. Vivian was born in Arlington, Virginia to parents Roye Dewey Burnett and Orba Clide Burnett on October 2, 1927. Vivian was a pioneering recording artist and songwriter, performing Rockabilly music in the 1950's under the stage name of Betty Barnes. She was part of the original live music scene in Austin. In 1956 she performed at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville and in Austin at the Skyline Club, Dessau Hall, the old Armadillo World Headquarters, and other local venues. Vivian Jeanette Worden passed away peacefully at the West Oak Rehabilitation Center in Austin, Texas on Tuesday, February 14, 2012. Vivian was born in Arlington, Virginia to parents Roye Dewey Burnett and Orba Clide Burnett on October 2, 1927.

Vivian was a pioneering recording artist and songwriter, performing Rockabilly music in the 1950's under the stage name of Betty Barnes. She was part of the original live music scene in Austin. In 1956 she performed at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville and in Austin at the Skyline Club, Dessau Hall, the old Armadillo World Headquarters, and other local venues. She was the 247th inductee to the Rockabilly Hall of Fame.

Later in life Vivian was a passionate bowler with the Westgate Lanes Senior Leagues. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, and cooking delicious cookies and hearty meals for her family.

Vivian was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Edward Munson Worden, a lifelong employee of the Internal Revenue Service in Austin.

Vivian is survived by her children Edward Wayne Worden, Judy Worden Sheffield, Lawrence (Larry) Worden and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorial Services celebrating Vivian's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 20, 2012 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.

The family thanks West Oaks Rehabilitation for their compassionate care of Vivian.
