WILLIAMS, Dr. W. Carter, Jr. – Born March 4, 1931 in Nashville, TN. Passed away on January 22, 2014 after a sudden illness. A true man of integrity, Carter will be remembered for his quick wit, sharp mind, comforting spirit, and devotion to family and friends. He spent his childhood years in Franklin, TN, graduated from Battle Ground Academy, and was awarded a Founder's Scholarship to Vanderbilt University where he completed his undergraduate and medical degrees, internship, residency, and fellowship. He served two years as Captain in the U.S. Army doing research in the area of Endocrinology and later became Chief Resident at the V.A....
WILLIAMS, Dr. W. Carter, Jr. – Born March 4, 1931 in Nashville, TN. Passed away on January 22, 2014 after a sudden illness. A true man of integrity, Carter will be remembered for his quick wit, sharp mind, comforting spirit, and devotion to family and friends. He spent his childhood years in Franklin, TN, graduated from Battle Ground Academy, and was awarded a Founder's Scholarship to Vanderbilt University where he completed his undergraduate and medical degrees, internship, residency, and fellowship. He served two years as Captain in the U.S. Army doing research in the area of Endocrinology and later became Chief Resident at the V.A. Hospital. He went into private practice at Green Hills Medical Clinic for 37 years and retired from The Frist Clinic in 2006. Other accomplishments include serving as Chief of Medicine at Parkview Hospital, Board Member of the Nashville Academy of Medicine, and Chairman of the Board at Centennial Medical Center. In his spare time, Carter ("Doc") loved fishing, working crossword puzzles, sharing fond memories with his children and grandchildren, and maintaining a picture perfect yard with his hedge trimmer and Gravely lawnmower. Preceded in death by his parents Wilson Carter Williams, Sr. and Mary Taylor Williams; his loving wife of 57 years Caroline Griscom Williams. Survived by his sister, Mary Williams Gant; son, Carter Williams, III; daughters, Rachel (Peter) Burton, Helen (Johnny) Daniel, Missy (Steve) Norris; six grandchildren, Stanton and John Burton, Caroline Daniel, TJ, Wilson, and Jack Norris; niece, Carter Gant Cooper; nephews, Andy, Paul, and John Gant. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at 5pm in the Sanctuary at Woodmont Christian Church, 3601 Hillsboro Pike, Nashville, TN 37215. Immediately following the service, visitation with the family will be from 6-8pm in Woodmont's Gathering Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made by mail to the Tennessee Kidney Foundation, 95 White Bridge Road, Suite 300, Nashville, TN 37205 or donate online at www.tennesseekidneyfoundation.org
