Retired United States Air Force Tech Sergeant Walter E. Douty of Longview, Texas passed away peacefully on February 11, 2014 at the age of 80, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Viletha, and his three brothers, Allen, Elmer and Frank. Walter was born on April 5, 1933, in Tyler, Texas. He grew up attending Kilgore Schools and Kilgore College. He was an outstanding trumpet player and was a member of the Kilgore Rangers Band. In 1953, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He married his high school sweetheart, Connie Rhea Brashears, on October 8, 1954. Walter and Connie were soon sent to RAF Station Sculthorpe, England where they lived for 4 years. After serving in England, they returned to the States and were stationed at Dyess AFB, Abilene, Texas and Grand Forks AFB, Grand Forks, North Dakota. Walter retired after 21 years of service with the Air Force. He and his family made their home in Longview, Texas.

Walter loved God and his family more than anything and they were always his top priority. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Longview, Texas. His primary goal was for his family to be happy and he definitely achieved that goal throughout his lifetime. He is survived by his wife, Connie R. Douty, his son Michael Douty and wife Patricia of Arlington, Texas, his son James Douty and wife Michelle of The Woodlands, Texas and his daughter Charlotte Summers and husband Steve of Sanger, Texas. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Walter enjoyed the simple things in life but his favorite activity was Bass fishing on Lake Fork. He loved spending days at the lake with his children and grandchildren, where he spent many wonderful hours relaxing, laughing, fishing and enjoying life. Watching the sun come up in the morning, while drinking a cup of coffee out on the lake was perhaps the most peaceful thing to him.
Those who knew him were blessed by his generosity, intergrity, and sense of humor. A private family service will be held at Lakeview Memorial Gardens. The family invites you to join the for a time of visitation and luncheon at 12:00 noon, Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Calvary Baptist Church 4715 Tenneryville Road Longview, Texas 75604
