Wade Gramley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 21, 2012.

Wade Windom Gramley, 50, passed into heaven October 19, 2012, in Raleigh, NC. He was born on September 23, 1962, son of the late William Bruce Gramley and Dorothy Lehtinen Gramley Morris and step-father, Russell Morris.

Wade graduated in 1980, from Edgewood High School in Ashtabula, Ohio. He received his Associates Degree from Triangle Tech, and a second degree in HVAC from the University of Georgia. He had a wonderful sense of humor. He was "a northerner with a southern soul" who had a love of BBQ, sausage gravy, the "Crow's Nest" and college football, especially Penn State University. He was a passionate person, especially in respect to music, trying to attend as many concerts as possible, including 21 in the last year. His long career in the HVAC began with the encouragement and direction of his step-father and working in his business. Wade enjoyed working for Johnson Controls, York International, Trane and most recently, McQuay.

Wade was very generous and service oriented, he exemplified the motto –"Love what you do and do what you love"! He loved to serve others and was always that person behind the scenes who did not seek the limelight. Above all he was a passionate family man. He was the most awesome husband, father, brother and friend and was adored by so many people.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Roxanna Gramley, his son and "buddy", Tyler Gramley, both of Raleigh. His sisters, Julie Glotzbecker and husband (My Brother), Tim of Ashtabula, Ohio; Kathy Lines and husband, Howard of Kingsville, Ohio; his brother, Scott Gramley and wife Gayle; brother-in-law, Jim Wofford and wife Ann of Raleigh; sister-in-law, Janet Whitley and husband Eddie (Got your back) of Charlotte, NC; along with Godparents, Jim and Nettie Weidig of Ashtabula, Ohio; including many nieces, nephews and cousins. He will also be deeply missed by longtime friends from childhood and concert goers, Don Fenton of Jacksonville, FL and Bruce Robishaw of Cuyahoga Falls, OH as well as many friends he has met throughout his lifetime and who were impacted by his generous heart. He was predeceased by his parents and his brothers, Bruce and Todd Gramley.

Come celebrate Wade's life in a casual way, on Tuesday, October 23, 2012, 2:30 P.M. at his home, 9102 Wellsley Way, Raleigh, NC. Services will be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Ashtabula, Ohio, at a date soon to be determined. Inurnment will follow at the church columbarium.

In lieu of Flowers, donations can be made to the Lions Club of Ashtabula, OH or to St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Ashtabula in Wade's memory. The family would like to express their appreciation to the ICU Staff of Raleigh Duke Hospital for their care and compassion.

Although I never had the chance to meet Wade personally, I did have the pleasure of having phone conversations with him while I was working on a job in his district. He was very agreeable and open to suggestions for remedying what could have turned out to be a bad situation for the company. In talking to some of the other technicians in the Raleigh area, there is no doubt in my mind that he was a great person to work for and I am sure he will be greatly missed.

I had it pretty easy being the youngest of the Gramley children. Mom and Dad were more relaxed or maybe worn out by the antics of my elder siblings. Wade and I had our own bond both good and bad. But I always knew even to this day that he would look out for me. My very first concert was with Wade and Scott - YES 90125 - I couldn't hear for days and burnt my fingers trying to hold up the lighter!

You will be missed. My deepest condonlinces to the family. Wade was my manager, but my friend first. My family and I will keep Wade and his love ones in our hearts and prayers.

There are no words to express the sadness I feel for the loss of such an amazing man. I feel honored and blessed to have known and worked for Wade. He was always kind and compassionate in the way he took care of others and his leadership abilities surpassed anyone I have ever known. He was not only the best boss I ever had - he was also a wonderful friend. He will be greatly missed and my days will never be the same without him. Roxie and Tyler you both know that my prayers are with you.

Several years back Wade showed up in Roanoke to take part in a Trane promotional video regarding the significance of customer service. He was dressed a little nicer than usual and I could not let that pass without commenting upon how well he cleaned up. He wore a blue tie for his part in the video and was hence known as my “Blue Tie Buddy”. For months I jokingly referred to him in this fashion until Christmas of that year when opening holiday cards I opened his, and there inside was the tip of that blue tie.

I smiled and realized that once again Wade was paying attention to the details. That he understood how small acts matter over the course of a lifetime. He not only mailed a Christmas card, he was thinking specifically of me when he mailed that card. This was normal and routine for Wade, which is why he stood out from the crowd. He loved to serve others and he lived a life of purpose. I will miss my “Blue Tie Buddy” yet I will never forget him and the smiles & laughter we shared.

I pray God's comfort and peace upon Roxanna and Tyler.

We lost a great friend indeed. Our best moment was when Wade came to the Trane office in South Florida. He used his skills to save the AC and the show at the Hard Rock arena. Which resulted in backstage passes and him meeting Joe Walsh, with front row seats. He was then, and now is, in Heaven. Wade, music and I are connected forever,,,,bless him and best to his family.
