Walter Eugene Anderson, Jr., better known to family members and friends as W.E. or "Dub" passed away at his home at the age of 90 on Friday, September 13, 2013. He was predeceased by his wife, Wanda Smoot Anderson on September 20, 2012 after nearly 70 years of marriage.

Mr. Anderson was born in High Point on July 15, 1923. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. After retiring from a career with the U.S. Postal Service in 1979, he found pleasure in a second 34-year career operating his own picture framing business. Mr. Anderson joined Green Street Baptist Church at the age of 23, and served the church in many leadership roles, including that of lifetime deacon. He was a quiet, humble family man with a dry wit, a strong work ethic and a fiercely independent spirit.

Mr. Anderson is survived by a daughter, Cathy Edwards and her husband Bill, of Apopka, Fl; a son, Dennis Anderson of Bedford Hills, NY with partner, Bill Sofield; a granddaughter, Jennifer W. Edwards and husband, Josh of Jacksonville, FL. and three great granddaughters, Palmer, Caroline, and Leighton Edwards; a sister Grace Dyer of Ames, IA.; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Wanda, he is predeceased by his sisters, Ellen Towery, Dorothy (Dot) Curlee, Vera Curlee and Beulah Lee Anderson.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Green Street Baptist Church, 303 Rotary Dr., High Point Wednesday, September 18th, with the Rev. Frank Hensley officiating. Visitation with the family will be held in the church foyer prior to the service starting at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be at Floral Garden Memorial Park following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial gifts be given to Green Street Baptist Church and designated for Missions or to any other designation or cause significant to the donor and their relationship to the deceased and his family.
