W. Joe Diehl, Jr. Nashville, TN Joe Diehl, age 84, passed away Friday evening, the 15th of August, 2014. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Fawn Wilkerson Diehl, and his parents, Walter Joseph Diehl, Sr. and Hazelle Slayden Diehl. He is survived by his children, Walter Joseph Diehl III (Susie) of Starkville, MS, Wesley Wilkerson Diehl (Cindy) of Kingwood, TX, and Nancy Hart Harvey (Robb) of Nashville; grandchildren, Ryan Diehl and Bradley Diehl (Brooke), Kingwood, TX and Benton Harvey, Knoxville; and his sister and brother, Ann Diehl McInnis (Miles) and Slayden Diehl (Carol), both of Dallas, TX. Joe Diehl, age 84, passed away Friday evening, the 15th of August, 2014.



He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Fawn Wilkerson Diehl, and his parents, Walter Joseph Diehl, Sr. and Hazelle Slayden Diehl.



He is survived by his children, Walter Joseph Diehl III (Susie) of Starkville, MS, Wesley Wilkerson Diehl (Cindy) of Kingwood, TX, and Nancy Hart Harvey (Robb) of Nashville; grandchildren, Ryan Diehl and Bradley Diehl (Brooke), Kingwood, TX and Benton Harvey, Knoxville; and his sister and brother, Ann Diehl McInnis (Miles) and Slayden Diehl (Carol), both of Dallas, TX. Joe's children wish to thank Ellen Dillon for her love, sharing of joy and support of their father.



After graduating in 1951 from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (later Auburn University), and obtaining a master's degree from Rutgers University, Joe continued his career in banking at Third National Bank and retired as Executive Vice President from SunTrust. Joe was a proud veteran, serving in the Korean War where he was awarded the Silver Star for heroism under fire. He was a long-time volunteer with Boy Scouts of America, serving Troop 31, as well as the Middle Tennessee Council, which honored him with the Silver Beaver Award. Joe was a Board member of many other community organizations, including Bill Wilkerson Hearing and Speech Center, Owl's Hill Nature Sanctuary, Ensworth School, Cheekwood, and was a member of Downtown Rotary Club. He was a long-time member and elder of First Presbyterian Church.



Visitation will be held Tuesday afternoon, the 19th of August, 2014 from one o'clock to three o'clock at Cheek House, First Presbyterian Church. A Memorial service at First Presbyterian will follow at three o'clock.



Honorary Pallbearers are former officers of Third National Bank and members of Chef's Club. Joe's family thanks Linda Hill and the caring staff at Woodcrest and Blakeford.



In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Owl's Hill, Vanderbilt Bill Wilkerson Center, Middle Tennessee Council/Boy Scouts of America, First Presbyterian Church/Nashville, or a .
